Hours change 40 to 39

Hi

I moved office several months ago the job was advertised as 40hrs(office has not yet completed the revision) and I took the job up being told it was 40hrs. I had been paid for 40hrs up until today when arrears were taken off my payslip. I have rang HR and they have said it is because my hours have been changed to 39hrs and backdated from when I started in the new office.

Surely they cannot do this without asking? I assume everyone who was on 40hrs before the revision stays on 40hrs pay but works 39hrs per week?

What are your co-workers on? 39 hours or 40 hours?

If you moved to a 39hr week in your previous office you should have continued that in your new office.
How your new manager resourced that extra hour would be up to him/her but if they wanted you to continue to work 40hrs it should have gone through as 39hrs plus 1hr overtime not as a 40hr contract.
I would speak to your rep about appealing the clawback of pay because it wasn't your fault and if you have been working 40hrs in an office where full-time is 40hrs you should be paid 40hrs.
