Family friendly hours

Post by sarah090182 »

What are the rules about family friendly hours
I am due back after twins
I can't only get nursery mon and tues and I have no guarantee family will be available on a Saturday
However my branch is saying that they can't offer me family friendly hours
What can be done
I have a meeting with union rep and manager at the weekend

Regrettably there are no rules regarding family friendly working, other than you have a right to request them. RM don't have to agree but they should explain any reasons for refusal.

see this websites for more information http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employmen=/ ... /DG_184569" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am not an expert on this subject, but it happens I was discussing this subject with my local CWU representative last week in connection with a member of staff who looks after a disabled husband.
I believe I am correct in saying that mothers with young children are entitled to assistance. In my last office I worked with a lady with young children who never worked in school holidays, and only worked during school hours.
I suggest you speak directly to Post Office Ltd Contact Centre on 0845 6016260 as well as having a chat with your local CWU Representative.

Unfortunately many of us are saddled with less than supportive local managers so expect some reticence...
