Contracts to permanent after 2 years?

Is it true under the new agreement with Royal Mail and the CWU that Short Term contract staff should be made permanent after 2 years? We have already had a letter 4 months ago saying we will be made permanent but all we seem to be getting is temp contracts still?

Yes, under the new PSP its really not that difficult, were in the process of completing it now. We have also extended this to anyone just over six months in an attempt to keep people as we have quite a high turnover in our D.O. Get on to your rep if its not happening.

Hi. Received a 3 month contract extension recently, last 2 weeks, spoke to the area delivery rep and my rep at the same time. Both said the agreement wasn't binding. What is the PSP agreement and can I take my query higher in the union.

the 3 months contracts will be sent out as normal until they get off their arse and change them over. To be honest this wasnt the union that did it for our D.O it was the dom, i just mentioned it, we talked and he did it, he said it was quite easy under the psp. PSP is people system portal or something like that and its what your line managers as from last week use to manage all the human resources in other words you lot.

However i was told by the area rep about six months ago to get a list of names together of everybody who was in your current state and he was to pass this on to division if my dom didnt do anything, but he did, sorry cant be more help.

Your DOM wouldn't do anything without it being authorised by his superior.
The agreement is 2 years, but if you are pre revision in an office where they (still) believe they can make significant savings then they won't make the contracts permanent until after that revision.

Or if your office is close by to a mail centre that is being shut. Won't make any temps permanent until they find out if anyone from the closing mail centre wants to move to your delivery office.

Yes i believe your are right, and yes we are post revision.

3.2 Royal Mail employees will be employed on permanent contracts, except where there is a genuine short term need identified. CWU will be consulted in advance where there is any such requirement. Temporary contracts will not exceed two years unless it has been jointly agreed that there are very exceptional circumstances. The position of temporary contract employees will be kept under regular review by the local parties, with a view to converting to permanent contracts where and when possible. Additionally, where change programmes have been completed and bedded in, the status of temporary contract employees will be reviewed and converted to permanent contracts unless there is no need for this additional resourcing or where there is an identified and agreed need to continue with a fixed term contract. Royal Mail confirms that as part of the review of this agreement, it is the aspiration to reduce the length of temporary contracts to no more than one year.
