6 Months in the job = Pay Rise?

I'm coming up to 6 months as a postie. I thought I remembered something about a 6 month pay-rise so I just re-read my original job description and found this:

Salary: Age 17 - £6.45, Age 18 and above - £8.30 per hour plus overtime and shift allowance if applicable.
With a pay increment after 6 & 12 months (subject to satisfactory performance)

Having had 5 and a bit months to work out how RM management works, I have a question: Will this actually happen and if so, will it happen automatically or will they make me jump through hoops? Am I supposed to have a review or something? (3 month temp rolling contract - 24 hr week. Unfortunately I'm very much over 18...)

Make sure you note down your pay now and afterwards and work out the tax and uniform cleaning allowance on your tax code which is for everyone not just union members, I wouldn't trust royal mail over this kind of thing or most things.

Only happens if your manager puts it through. Mine forgot I chased him up about it and it went through 3 months late but he forgot to ask for it to be backdated so I had to chase him up about that as well. Took another 3 months to get my backpay. Lesson is don't take it for granted.

its automatic to the date. 6 months, and another after 12months. mine went through no problems. subject to satisfactory review.
