prep rates

we are now, a few weeks into park&loop and a sheet came out telling us what the prep rates are for the sorting standards, it states 32 per minute for the walk-sequencing mail, so i timed myself, done 32 in 55 seconds, but this was going hell for leather, i would not be able to keep that standard up throughout the day, it would kill me, but, that it would appear, the way the postal service is going now.

Why would you be doing it throughout the day ? Are you on prep only?

no sorting rates are based on you going as fast as you can, then you get to go out on your walk, remember 4 miles an hour, bet that,s not gone away, they looked at the traders on the london stock exchange going hell for leather on the phones, and they were told by ACAS they were operating at 100BSI, sound familiar??? so they said, "we want postpeople working at 100BSI, acas told royal mail, that the traders were highly paid and highly motivated, something that we are not, and traders are usually burnt out after ten years, but you know RM, SORTING RATES ARE SET TOO HIGH, to justify the cuts they are making in delivery.

Sorry if I misunderstood and now realise that you meant working at 100% of your capacity all day. There is of course an often overlooked get out clause attached to this requirement, and it is this .... work to 100% of your capacity by all means, but as the day wears on, your capacity changes - you will still work to 100 % of it - it just happens that the capacity concerned has got smaller due to the demands placed upon it. Easy to understand from a working mans point of view but you may need help to explain it to a manager who only reads from the book of silly rules and regulations :)

42 items/min may be what they are using as a resourcing figure.

It will vary from office to office. Ours was accepted at 16 per minute.

Not sure what the Planning Value is for sequenced mail (should be quoted in Std Mins per 1000 items) but whatever DO NOT ACCEPT TARGETS ANY HIGHER THAN 75BS for any task.
