Height Discrimination?

Myself and the lady i share our van with are both just 5'1" tall, we are both very fit and healthy. We bust a gut to get the rounds done in time, and i've even been known to run them! It is well recognised in our office that our two rounds are two of the longest and toughest terrain wise.

We have been confronted by management asking why we regularly go over our scheduled finish time into overtime, and when we say the round is just too big for us, they don't look kindly upon it. To add, we signed for the rounds as they were the only two left after the re-sign (nobody else wanted them preferring to stay as reserves instead!)

I am worried as i have only been a postie for 4 months and am not through my trial period yet. If they were to fire me for being too slow, do you think i would have any recourse on the grounds of height discrimination? After all they can't expect someone who is 5'1" to do it in the same time as someone who is 6' can they due to longer leg stride etc. If i run it every day just to keep pace with the bigger guys, i'll end up dead! Any advice appreciated!

yeah hilarious. Thanks for the help! Meanwhile i am terrified of losing my job. Especially when i get back off my round 40 minutes late and the manager says
"What took you so long, May i remind you that you are still on trial".

I'm having sleepless nights, and am on the verge of giving it all up despite the fact that i love the job. Just hate the pressure they put you under.

Your office rep and work place coach are tossers for letting you sign on a monster walk.
You should still be under the induction/training program for your first 26 weeks.
If they are worth talking to speak to both of them about the undue pressure you are being placed under...and it's nothing to do with your height...your manager is a tosser as well....nice office you've been lumbered with...best of luck.

1-If you haven't already joined the CWU, JOIN now.

2-See your rep, and put forward your case to him

3-Tell your DOM that you want your duties testing, put this in writing ( he'll refuse as he doesn't want to know the truth )

4-Keep a harrassment diary, tell your dom your doing this ... He will be much more careful about what he says to you.

5-Every time you speak to the DOM make sure you have the union rep with you, or at least a witness.

6-Do your job properly, don't leave chinks in your armour for managers to exploit.

Well i do know a case of an employee who management tried to get rid of at the end of their trial period only to find out they couldn't because they had failed to follow their own training guidelines and had no 13 week review documentation.
If i remember correctly the manager tried to fake the review after the fact and almost lost his own job in the process.
