Pushing LWT

Don't know anyone else has posted this.......
Got told today we are allowed to push the LWT, thank f*** someone has finally seen sense. Quite a lot of people in my office have suffered lower back pain due to keep having to twist to grab the handle.

Did you get it in writing of was it a DOM special?

Although it does make much more sense to push the thing than to twist your back to pull it.

I think its a national thing as we don't have WTL very often the manager was just walking around with the paperwork.

Well you need to be very careful how selective you are when summarising the revised SSOW for LWTs.

There are many conditions under which it must not be pushed, this includes uneven ground, kerbs, blind corners and upward slopes.

In essence the revision has basically allowed pushing to cover manoeuvring through narrow gaps and little more.

The manager did say about pulling the trolley uphill and other stuff. Its a matter of using your common sense

I pull uphill and push downhill. Otherwise if you are on a slight downhill and you are pulling it, it drifts/rolls away from you each time you stop. On the flat I generally pull it if it's heavy and push it if it's light. Pulling the trolley all the time does hurt my back after a bit, better to vary it up.

I've got a fairly long stride so my first day with the LWT consisted of the wheels banging into my heels, so I always push the trolley. Plus it's easier to keep the wheels clean if you can see where they're treading.

Branches will be aware that the Delivery Lightweight Trolley (LWT) was designed to be pulled when in use. However following various pieces of feedback from Delivery OPGs that they would also like the option to push the trolley in certain circumstances, we with the assistance of Mick Gledhill from the CWU Walk Design Group have been reviewing the safety risk assessments with Royal Mail Safety and Ergonomic Managers.

This work is now complete and whilst the preferred method of use is to pull the LWT it has now been jointly evaluated that it is safe and permissible to push the LWT in certain circumstances.
