Work to rule

Whats the advantages and disadvantages if an office decided to work to rule for a week? Seems a lot pissed off at the moment and is this the only way for a office as a whole to show its not happy with how a revision has gone?

It's not called a work to rule - it is called "Doing The Job Properly"
A work to rule could be viewed as taking unofficial industrial action - and there are consequences to that.

If the office isn't already Doing The Job Properly then suggesting they are going to do it for a week is just piss.
They won't stick to it - for the same reasons they aren't sticking to it now.
It's normally Loudmouth Larry who advocates a work to rule - then he is the first one in on overtime.

Unofficial industrial action............unless you put it to an official vote then that's what RM will say about it and you run a very real risk of being sacked over it. So either get a vote for IA or just start working by the rules yourself and ignore all the other complainers.

If it's a proper overtime ban/work to rule....
The disadvantages are it's impossible to police/maintain and it has a disproportionately harsh effect on part-time members who don't have the comfort of a full-time wage to rely on.

The advantages are minimal...management will have to pull in outside resource to cover which will be expensive but this is mostly offset by the overtime they are not paying your members.

If you want to make a point,make it at the gate is my opinion.

its ok saying do it at the gate but would the members be supported by a rep , as our office / area rep is in this p&l for an easy ride he wont even answer his phone to anybody , we havent seen him for nearly a year now because the dutys are a joke and you say its minimal who in the right mind would do half a round for 2hrs - 15mins on o/t with p&l.

Working to rule is a big NO NO,what the office has to do is to abide and work to Royal Mail guidelines.Play it by their rules,but you have to have a united office to have any effect.

But be carefull lads ,because what happens is .The postie starts doing it by the book ,DO brings you in why are you claiming overtime as you wernt last week .IM doing the job properly now ,the manager will say so u wernt doing it properly before !!!!, ,thats why ive always done it to the book then they cant kick it back in your face .

We done this in 2007 when EA took our nights away,best fun we ever had,i've still got the threatening to stop pay letter somewhere.
As an office you have to be very strong though,it was the good old days when we done it,when everyone stuck together,we done it again in 2009 when EA took our 4 day week away,again a lot of fun,add the 20 or whatever it was strike days on top,happy times.
