Hi I would like some help or advice please...! If you have been delivering to a street where a dog has went for you 4 times...! You have noted your line manager on every occassion & after that you feel so petrified & worried you cant go back into the street can your manager make you go back in fully aware of the dangers & how emotionally & physically petrified you ae to go back in...!

You can report the dog to dog warden. If you feel in danger, ask your union rep to help you to fight your case. If the dog is loose, don't enter. If it in doubt don't enter.

This is the thing it's that type of house where there isn't a front garden & they deliberately do it to just me...! I have confronted the owners before but they are soo off their face they don't care...! They don't have their dog on a lead...! I am soo petrified I've been gettin other people to do the street which my manager wasn't happy bout...! I have contacted dog warden but owners wouldn't answer...!

My manager basically spoke to me like s**t told me I had to get over it but he doesn't get it or listen ti what am saying...!

I'd insist that you make an immediate call first thing in the morning to the CWU Area Safety Representative.

one area in Dundee had the same problem. posties stopped deliveries to trhe whole area and that stopped the problem. at our office what I say to the manager is if you insist on deliveries in that area knowing the hazard then any injury is down to you (manager) putting ball in doms court soon gets results. put it in writing to the dom and keep a copy. your rep should do this. then they cannot say they did not know of the problem. your dom is the person who should be contacting warden . however in Scotland the law is now even if dog annoys (not even bites) in the street it is an offence. even to be bitten or attacked on private land is an offence. the police deal with this

Always remember that you have a duty of care for your own health & safety, if you feel under threat, refuse to deliver or else ask the DOM to go out with you or do it themselves. Report the dangerous dogs to the police, dog warden and local council. You should check out the new dangerous dog legalisation.

Thanks guys for all your replays I sincerely appreciate it...! ....

Well the owners basically watch open the door like they didn't see me then dog comes flying towards me I panic...! I feel like an idiot...! It's the types of house that doesn't have a front garden & has another flat round the side of it...!!!

My boss sed he would put some1 out we me but you know what like...! It's not like I've only been in once & refused to go back in I've went back in & it repeatedly happens to me & I look like the idiot cuz any other posties go in they don't see it or have any bother...!

I had to go into the street on Saturday...! My heart was racing soo fast...! In absolute fear they wid let it out but I felt like cuz there was folk going about the street they didn't...!

Your boss needs to be informed of their responsibilities, the Area Health and Safety Representative will do this for you.

My boss's boss has told people if you feel endangered or threatened don't go in so I told him that & all he sed was I need to get over it it's 1 street 1 dog...! He sed yes I agree with my boss but you can't avoid a whole street because of 1 dog...!

The best laugh is the owners sed to 1 o the posties " aye you the een feart o the dog..? " she sed no its nae me, so they sed " aye let her ken I dogs tied up noo...! " bullshit...!!! Am nae taking any chances...!hate them soo much I feel like try gt a kick oot o terrorising me we their dog...!

Your boss is responsible for ensuring your health, safety and welfare whilst at work, there is an official process in dealing with animals and they are not undertaking that process.

The DSM is correct, however your Manager isn't. You can if necessary avoid an entire estate because of one animal, it has been done on more than one occasion too. What your Manager is supposed to do is to reduce the risk, not ask you to ignore it in the hope it goes away. As I said there is a process to go through at the end of which the owners of the animal/property will have a documented acknowledgement of the measures they have put in place in order to assure your safety and thus allow deliveries to continue.

You are trained to not listen to the owners assurances, that is given officially through the process your Manager must undertake.

I was soo frustrated I hated still kinda do going into work...! He said those things to me when I got back the day I got a call saying you have left that street...! I got them text & sed there's Noway I'm going in...! Boss will talk to you when you get back...! fine...! Take disciplinary action if you feel the need to...! But he wouldn't...!

I work hard I always work to my hours but I was soo mad when he spoke to me like that I sed you don't get it or understand how emotionally & physically petrified I am o going in their...! When I've been at home talking to my fiancé about it he's like get him sorted. I get soo wound up & aggressive about it I even cried about this stupid dog...! Very sad I ken but at the mo I feel like everything's going wrong for me at work...! I have had enough I went into his office on Saturday broke my heart bout stuff that was gettin me down..., I sed to him how sad I'm soo emotional over work it's bad...! Ive been through worse...!
