What is the official line for reserves, even regulars (who know the round), with customers leaving front doors open. I remember reading once that if a front door is 'open' and you do not know if a dog resides there you should not attempt delivery. Due to this heat I have noticed large amounts of doors just being left open to try and cool down the house more. If I followed this procedure on an unfamiliar round I would be taking half the mail back.

Makes a mockery of the dog pegs.

All dogs on the round should be logged in the walk risk assessment and dog warning stickers used, so I would insist that the walk log is kept upto date for starters

I discussed this issue with the Lino who said don't go in if the door is open and you KNOW there is a dog at that house. Obviously suggesting not to bring it back if no dog resides there. The problem obviously is visitors and people bringing home a pet for the first time.

Just making sure I am covered if I bring it back AND there is no dog warnings in the logbook.

I counted the dogs on my duty....................over 300 that's going to be a hell of a lot dog stickers

Another problem is if there is more than several dogs it will be hard to remember them all. I don't like hot weather due to more doors being open and it make people more sloppy with dogs. Another brilliant idea of us starting at 7am rather than 5am

the first letter for every known dog. I do it every day - only bit once in 7 years and that was a customers fault not mine. Let the dogs out while signing for something.

Had one recently the dog which is one of those huge ones a meter tall comes running out and then chases in loops around me down the road, I didn't even enter the property, it didn't bite but I thought it was close.

Then a week later and it does the same thing but just pretends to attack while the owner tries to call it back and I couldn't see the point in turning my back to it again.

Do i stand a better chance legally If i stay off the property, can't really avoid it but someone on here said in Scotland they have different legal rules about private property and dogs, and it hasn't done anything physical yet plus it's a rich area so they wouldn't take it kindly being told to control their dog. It looks harmless but it is out of control on what I think is a public road (might be private) and If my kids were around i'd probably have reported it to the police, as a postman it's going to be more confrontational.

If the owner does not control the dog then you have every right not to deliver. If they want to keep their doors open then they must control their pet. Simple as.

The next time it might not pretend.
