Trolleys (more work+less time=Why have you not completed!)

Once the revision/new way of working has been implemented in your office, can/have you, or do you know of anyone up and down the country, be done for not using them? This really is a grey area, why spend all that money for people not to use them? Trolley's DO take you longer, that is indisputable. But managers turn a blind eye when they know they are not being used, so I also add, Has a manager been done for not enforcing trolley use? If there is anyone that has been done, managers included, what was the punishment?

I only ask as I'm starting to read numerous comments regarding 'smaller bundles', 'It's quicker with just the bag'. Trolley's could be one of Royal Mail's biggest own goals in history.

Trolleys can take longer, however you need to be careful what you are comparing the times with.

Remember that using a bag, you should still be walking to each gate and up and down each individual driveway/path, not cutting in front of windows, across gardens etc. (This means that you are now walking similar distances using each method). So your indisputable time differences are now down to how fast you can walk with a heavy bag on your shoulder, weaving in and out of bins and hanging baskets, climbing up and down steps and bending to low letterboxes against wheeling a relatively negligible weight along the street and carrying a small working bundle!

Well the trolley doesn't take me longer, its quicker, apart from having to push it up steep hills that I shouldn't be. I couldn't do without it now.

Don't forget, every time you deliver, you are returning to a stationary trolley. So you are slowing to a stop to continue walking.

I only used a trolley once before and it gave me back ache. Never using one again.

I love the trollies, they are modern and professional looking. To me, it beats carring a bag. I wish there was some sort of handbrake on the LWT for hills though.

Using a trolley will always be slower than walking with a bag. Thats why they are not being used by many.

Also with a trolley you have to try and dodge dogshit,and old fastfood thats been chucked on the causey,and they are a nightmare on bin day also trying to get past cars that have been parked on the causey

But there's where the problems begin as the driver doesnt use a trolley and doesnt want the walker to use one as the driver either has to wait or help him out .
Some do and some dont and just moan .

Strangely using that philosophy you are saying that the duties which were once 3½ hours long are now 4½ hours long, and guess what? they are!

generally van share / park and loop duties are designed at around 4½ hours, (three loops each at 45 minutes multiplied by two duties)

I and my partner use a trolly, we have 1 or 2 oversized as we pack both bags to the max, our loops are very even, hell we even make a little time, P&l is working in the main in my office, even after 25 years of using a bike in the old way, i must say i prefer it now :)
