told to do another delivery/no notice
morning everyone
first qestion so please be gentle
i am my office rep and have just received a telephone call from a member as i am on holiday at the moment
it seems he was moved off his delivery (rural) onto another delivery (rural) and was told he had to do it.
the reason being was he had done this other delivery and the person on this other delivery was moved to a town delivery so he could do town docket when he got back due to staff shortage.
i hope the makes sense
i was under the impression a manager cannot move you off your own job unless by agreement
this new as directed ime a manager mentality with the flexibility agreement is irrelevant
tell me i am right in that 24 hours notice is needed to do this change of duty and the member is correct in refusing to do this other delivery if he wanted to
if we have this in an agreement then please post a link to shove in his face as i am back in the office on monday. this is a new fascist that started last week and i have not had the pleasure of meeting yet

Work as instructed on any duty you are trained for.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Re: told to do another delivery/no notice
The position as Operational Postal Grade requires that you perform any reasonable operation for which you are trained.
As the IR Rep your responsibility will be to ensure that Management do not have duties for which there are insufficient trained personnel and that this operational need is not always used against the same person(s).

Operational need?
To make it easier for someone to perform overtime?

Doubt that's what they would say but yes. Same as working your day off I guess.fishtank wrote:Operational need?

Re: told to do another delivery/no notice
It sounds like he really doesn't have a leg to stand on. I don't really see the problem anyway, all he need to do is work until his finish time and if he can't get it done because he hasn't done the delivery in a while then cut off. I have been in the situation when I have loaded my van and ready to leave the office and been moved to another job which had not even started being preped. Didn't bother me particularly since I only ended up delivering less than half of it.

Re: told to do another delivery/no notice
I don't think you could argue whether the OPG could refuse or not.
I do think as the rep he should be questioning the genuine business requirement behind the request.
It would appear he was only moved to make it easier for someone performing overtime.
Why?.
Was this overtime performed within normal duty hours?
If it was in any way, even partially i would be making some noise.

yes. that is the reason for me asking. their was no operational need to do this except it would give the OPG a better chance at doing some overtime
i would cause that a resource and staffing issue to cover duties which should have been sorted yesterday at the latest. not this morning

Re: told to do another delivery/no notice
As the Rep' did you leave an Sub Rep' in place for the weekly resource meeting? Have you spoken to them about any staffing issues which may have arose which were not considered during that meeting? Who do you think is responsible to manage sudden/unexpected staffing issues which fall outside of that which were discussed at the resource meeting?
As a result of an unexpected staffing issue the Manager decided that operational changes were necessary in order to complete delivery and maintain USO.
You can call it whatever you like but as far as the Manager is concerned there was an 'operational need'.

Yep, it stinks, it's wrong but there is nothing you can do about it.Himaggen wrote:As the Rep' did you leave an Sub Rep' in place for the weekly resource meeting? Re: told to do another delivery/no notice
Hmmm why is he a baby?
He likes doing his own round and gets on well with his customers and gets moved just so the other person can do a town round and then do a bit of another town round on overtime, surly the town round and rural job both should take the same time as the hours of work are the same, so they had no need to move him!
