To posties who deliver to shopping centres....

i take my hat off to you all...been covering a walk for the last three weeks right smack in the middle of town and covering two large shopping centres....all i can is you lot must have lots of patience...
Gold shops...why are the staff in these places so miserable and aloof...taking ages to acknowledge you are even there laden with a heavy bag and waiting for for several specials/recorded items to be signed for?
Obese people women/men...walking around with loads of kids in tow.....many stinking of sweat..dozens of pushchairs...eating their ice creams while talking about going down to McDonald's ....never move out of the way when you ask them to..often just standing in front of doorways making sure nobody can get past while on their expensive mobiles swearing about this and that in front of their many off-spring..
Teens...all with their headphones on...many smoking weed while wondering around town with their crews..innit...swearing and cursing everyone at the top of their voices trying to stand out cos they are 'hard'..lol...never ever move out of the way..usually you got to be as ignorant as them by just barging past them in order to do your job...
I feel sorry for various staff who have to work in these clothes stores(girls are always nice in these places)..what they gotta put up with is unbelievable....''how long can i keep dis top till i can bring it back to get me refund innit''(heard this in Topman on Tuesday)....''Facking no security in dis store dudes...gonna be easy to rob innit''(Boots store today)...and why are people rushing around like headless chickens...when you are trying to deliver mail in these stores..many which are huge...you got to walk for ages looking for staff to take things off you as many a time there in nobody on the tills...(which are always right at the back of the stores)..i mean today..nipped into Monsoon...nobody at the front at all..so i walked down to the till where i assumed someone would be there...dodging mums/pushchairs/ and dopey customers who walk around in a complete daze looking at nothing..and certainly buying nothing...nobody at the desk only one person(young stressed out girl)..serving a long line of customers..obviously not in a position to take items off me or sign for the packets i had for her company..no gaffer around...waited around 6 mins before she got round to me...eventually i got away..whereupon leaving the store..three other staff members were sat in the corner(behind a clothes rail)...sending texts!!!
Yep..like i have said..all you posties who deliver in shopping centres i salute you..cos when kids are on hols..your job is impossible!

Hahaha, good post I enjoyed reading it, sounds like my town centre where I live, not that I've delivered in it, just sounds like any other chav high street in Chav Britain I suppose!!

You must be new to this job, the more experienced you get the less likely you are to wait, you go in, look for someone to sign, if you see nobody and nobody approaches you then just P739 it and leave with it...........doesn't take doing that too many times and they'll jump the next time you come in (I've done it in banks and POs).

I used to find that banks were the very worse and would refuse to sign. Sometimes even when customers would offer to stand aside to let you through.

I delivered to shops and banks for years and put up with all the crap. My replacement lasted 2 days before having a row in Lloyds bank and refusing to take out their regis.

Mmmm....i deliver mail to around seven banks/building societies on this round..usually i get seen to quickly...unless there are customers...Santander/Natwest and HSBC staff will always blank you when serving customers...and expect you to wait for them for an eternity before they decide to serve you....Jewelry shop staff are just pig fooking ignorant...full stop...

Nat West use to ignore me until after waiting 5 mins for acknowledgement I'd 739 it. Had the cheek to phone up and complain after I'd done it a few times. Managers backed me up. That particular bank don't ignore anyone anymore

Good post and agree with the banks,po etc....however i find the most miserable ones seems to be sectretries for law firms[pen pushers]who talk too you like shite,as if they are above you,and trying to demand there mail to be on there desk first thing
Once i had a few regs for her too sign and she bluntly told me that i had too wait as she was busy.Seeing she was just sitting behind her desk with her arms folded and staring at me.
"No problem"i said,then walked out her reception office and marched up stairs to the top lawyers' office and asked if he could kindly sign for them,as his secteretly was too busy seemingly.
He apologised for her actions,and asked if i could tell her too come and see her on my way out.How could i possibly refuse .I never even got out the main door and he was giving the hair dryer treatment

po staff are supposed to finish serving the customer they are currently dealing with, and then let the postie jump the queue for signed-for items to be signed. i got this from a colleague who knows the job backwards.

Another good bunch are estate agents.

I had a surcharge once for a unpaid A4 letter and the handling fee was 50p at the time. I was directed to the manager who made a big show in going on and on about the 50p on top of the unpaid postage which he felt was a kings ransom and unjust.

I noticed his brand new Porsche 911 parked outside and sarcastically said “nice car”. He replied “ yes I can afford that by not paying stupid surcharges” I noticed the rolling of eyes from his staff and I thought what a smug knob.

So I said “ your not going to pay then” , “on your bike” he replied. “ok no problem “ is said and left the shop. When I got back to the office I personally killed off the letter refused and placed it in the RLB drop bag.

Apparently around 4pm a very flustered women came running into the inquiry office asking about the letter as it turned out to be a completion document for a property which they urgently needed. Lucky for them the phg found it in the bag with my refused sticker proudly stuck on it and she gladly paid up.
