You shouldn't do what this fella does you should deliver the card when the gate is open. If the gate is never open and there is not a external letterbox you should inform manager and send letters back as inaccessible. Whats to stop someone taking card and if the enquiry office don't ask for I.D for some reason then steal the packet. Don't give them the ammo to sack you just bring it back.

yes i should have bobbed back a few times or five to see if the gate was still closed because ive got time to do that

I don't think he meant that. AFAIK its 3 attempts (1 per day) and if there is still no access its killed off after authorisation from management. With packets instead of taking them again you card them at the next attempt, that its you take the F/L only with the mail for that day - destroying it when you kill off the packet.

I see DHL and others wrapping their equivalents of 739s around door handles and gates all the time. He's just following Moya's mantra - that we should be able to operate freely like our competitors (ie, do whatever we want)

Oh no it's not.
Every attempt has to be made to contact the building occupants/owners.
A letter has to be delivered to the address informing them of access issues.
RTS is a last resort when all else has failed.

And for any property where such a letter hasn't been delivered, any failed mail has to be retrospectively recorded on their precious DODR.

In the interest of fairness and the public,you should of told him bollox.

At my place it's the 3 day rule,i never use it i keep trying,usually it doesn't get past 3 days though,very rare,and it's usually because of timelocks.
