sent an item i sold recently via our recorded delivery service....the recipient did not get the item until 10 days after i posted it(well done Royal Mail)...furthermore..i was told the postie/driver did not ask for a signature as they should have done..instead..just handing the item over..minus the recorded delivery sticker which apparently had been torn off...why do drivers/posties do this?
And can they be in trouble over something like this if caught?

YEP. Tottally agree with that one.All about a postie saving time. If the orange label is easy to peel off, of it comes . Then no messing about with the PDA and writing a card out.

The service is actually a good idea,but our colleagues look on it as a burden.I would NEVER trust it.

I believe it is time to drop rocorded delivery and offer simply tracked or special delivery - at least with tracked their is a clear trail and time is saved by being able to deliver non signature items directly to the premises..... or is it difficult to make tracked available to domestic senders?

i wouldnt do it as you are in effect stealing can you imagine the amount of complaints you get on your walk with missing recordeds the security team would be watching. BE WARNEDsomerset wrote:YEP. I think recorded needs to go, or SD needs to come down in price for letter post. I use recorded when I send things because I have been done over in the past on ebay. But now I actually work for RM I know that recorded is useless. Its SD or nothing now, I cant trust normal post (for the recipient not RM.)

Well the technology is already there to have a cheap tracked/scan at door/GPS logged/internet access, type product - all they have to do is replace the current PDAs or batteries so that they last a full delivery.

our PDA's are s**t...got mine off the charging rack in the callers...battery down to 30% within 45 minutes...crap!! Recorded delivery is useful for lower value items where you still want to make sure that the person at the other end definitely got it, i.e. by making them have to sign for it. It is therefore a useful service for certain things.

I would not be surprised to see Tracked replace both SDs and recordeds. At the moment (at least as far as MCs are concerned Tracked is a different system from recordeds and specials, the guns used for specials don't accept Tracked bar codes. Tracked signature required is basically the direct equivalent of recorded delivery. They could just add another option set for tracked for different levels of compensation.
In any case we need new equipment as the guns for specials are old and f****d (just take a look at the manufacture date on one next time you use it). The pda batteries even the new ones have to go back in the cradle during breaks otherwise they don't last the shift, they should be able to go through a whole shift of scanning an item every few seconds for a whole shift without a break.
