Now that nominations have closed I feel that it is the right time to announce that I will be standing for the NEC (Postal Constituency) in the forthcoming national election. As the only person standing under the age of 30 I think it is time for change, a new face, fresh ideas and someone who isn't always going to go along with the consensus.

We are entering a crucial phase in the KEEP THE POST PUBLIC CAMPAIGN we have a good chance of fighting the privatisation of Royal Mail given the weakness of the ConDem Government. We need all of the union pulling in the same direction not a split union with elements rushing off to do premature share deals with the government over whether we get 10% or 10.5%.

If I am elected to the NEC I will make this one of my key priorities. The damage that will be done to terms and conditions through privatisation will be massive. We are in danger of walking onto a punch with all this nonsense about industrial democracy and two bob shares.

It’s time for the CWU to change direction. We are in danger of sleep walking into privatisation and all that will bring without a clear strategy to protect terms and conditions.

KEEP THE POST PUBLIC
Some of the hierarchy seem intent on rushing into premature share deals that will be in the interests of nobody other than those at the top.

TIME TO BE CRITICAL
It seems nobody at HQ is prepared to criticise Royal Mail anymore. Where was the opposition in the press when Moya Greene recently pocketed a £1 million bonus?

COLLEAGUE SHARE
Colleague share was a farce and CWUHQ is also to blame. We have been sold an inferior amount of money without a ballot when workplace managers have been awarded much more.

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL PAY
I will oppose any move to pay the Executive an inflated wage. The Executive want more pay than those they represent. This is not right and this money should go to fund support for front line Reps in the workplace.

SATURDAYS
The leadership continue opposing a change to a Monday-Friday service due to supposed job losses. This is bizarre when huge job losses are being accepted continually in agreements. The leadership needs to listen to the calls for change within the union on this issue.

NEW GOVERNANCE MODEL
Why is there a continuing obsession with placing National CWU officials on management boards? This will make the Union even weaker. Those who are closet managers should stop being union reps. The leadership needs to get back to leading a trade union on behalf of workers.

BASIC PAY
Despite previous promises we continue to trail behind the national average pay rate. The gap is becoming wider and there are no tactics to deal with this.

Kye that's everything I and many others want to hear BUT and there's always a but, that in itself is the problem. Could I point out the recent coalition problem, the Libs wanted change to the House of Lords and the Tories went along with it until it came to the crunch and then the majority (the Tories) wimped out and there's the rub - you would be a voice in the wilderness Kye. It's fine and well preaching change, the problem arises in delivering it - we've had the sermon - how would you bring about the change? Not least of all to the merry tune that RM and HQ are doing a duet to?

The Government is weak and divided at the moment. If we can push the privatisation further back into 2014 then we get into an election cycle, this would then be a very sensitive issue that the government wouldn't want to touch going into an election. What we need is a refocused keep the post public campaign with all of the union leadership behind it, not part of it rushing off to a do deal over shares yesterday if they could.

I've got views on certain things that are different to the current leadership and I'm putting myself forward for election on these views. I could put out an election address where I agree with everything that comes out of HQ and say something soft like I will send out a regular leaflet, but that would be wrong.

It's admirable that you have a different view than the current leadership Kye, you and most of the membership I would imagine, but having a different view and being able to influence the current leadership to change is quite another matter. Having said that I wish you luck in the forthcoming election.

CWU Bristol Amal branch member Kye Dudd has been elected to the union's National Executive Council in results announced today.

In a ballot held to choose a replacement for outgoing NEC member Noel Mclean, Kye topped the poll, with Postal Executive members Ian Ward and Mahmood Ali coming second and third respectively.

Reacting to the result, Kye said: "Thanks to all those who've elected me.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge and I stand by my election address - we need to continue campaigning to keep the post public, keep fighting for all our members and work together to grow the union across the sector," he added.

Well there you have it, 12.5k voted out of how many, 160,000 and the bloke voted in had just 25% of votes of those who bothered to vote and about 2% of union members.....................and yet alls right in the CWU world Is the NEC/PEC/FULL TIME REPS truly representative of the membership as a whole or is it just a small cabal.

their sun readers perhaps? if people take no interest in affairs that could improve their lot perhaps they deserve all they get. good luck to kye dudd, i personally didn't vote for him, but he won fair and square so i wish him all the best.
