Walk sorted trays getting worse

Over the last month the walk sorted trays that we get have been getting worse with
1/ wrong letters for walk but right office. Up to 10 per tray
2/ letters in trays coming in back to front and upside down
3/ trays wrongly marked up

I was thinking that recently too. I've had a lot where certain letters of the same type are all upside down and also where the street is OK but the letter is for a completely different town. Also there's always a good handful of letters at the end of the tray that are not sorted properly, more than usual

Maybe it's because the machines are now getting a bit older and will start wearing down and little errors will creep in, it's only going to get worse unless RM buy new machines every year

It would only work if they could sort/sequence all the mail, otherwise we'd still have to do the rest of them at the frame after prep.

MCs with older machines are probably better off with them

What way up, or which way the envelopes are facing will depend on how the mail was coded at the mail centres. The CSS machine reads two different barcodes which are put on at the MC, and tells the machine where in a batch this letter should go. The mail goes through the CSS machine three times (and with a little pixie dust and a magic chant by the operator,) it comes out in the right order.

If the mail was coded upside down, then the letter you get in your box will be upside down. If the operator turns them around so they are the right way up, the machine doesn't recognise the barcode and sends the letter to the rejects, which means that it has to be sorted on the IPS.

I noticed the other night a handful of cards (about a hundred or so, from a local company which had their own address as well as their customers address on the front, guess which address had been coded?

The bottom line is these machines are reliant on every part of the pipeline being accurate. I'm not defending the CSS machines as they are poorly designed and are not up to the job, but that seems to be part and parcel of RM now.
