WORLD CLASS MAIL -UNIONS VIEW ?

Could anyone tell me what is the unions view on this ?Our union rep has not done his own delivery for ages as he is so involved in this wcm.Its a nice comfy number no hassle ,goes round with a manager pulling posties up about not doing this and not doing that .If there is any problems regarding lapsing etc he is no where to be seen STRANGE !! ,well not really as one of the duties that lapses is his ,does this sound familier in your office ?

snap , its been the same in our office our rep is also the area rep and he hasnt done his duty for 12 month now and he wont answer his phone or come into the office to speak to the members about the doms bullying and harrasment and 3 day aweek walk collaspeing and also crossing overtime off , surprise surprise rep on full pay and driving allowance pay. if this is a world class company then roll on the big sell off.

union reps taking an easy ride will always be a problem within this union and others. what we need is a conveyor belt of people willing to stand against incumbant officials. if you don't have that you have to lump it. its that simple.

I have often wondered if some offices would be better off with no rep rather than a corrupt rep.
At least an office with no rep could be flagged up to branch as vulnerable and extra attention could be given to it by the area rep.
Perhaps area reps need to get in to offices more to gauge just how much support local reps carry in their respective units.
Perhaps we should look at what keeps a poor rep in position,how difficult it is to make a change and think about how the union is represented in the workplace as well as how the membership is represented.
These are all difficult questions for a union to address but if the alternative is apathy and membership disengagement we may have no choice.

Area rep lets all world class mail through without any opposition. Result is that the place now feels like its a bit dangerous to work in for the first time ever. Also everything introduced is a bit difficult to use, and taking longer to do the same task. Its all reaching and twisting and lifting weights up higher with obstructions to get in your way. One thing if rolled out to 30 mail centres has got to add £2,500,000 to costs for no reason. Good if you are on wcm ;go home one and a half hours early, change your shift but keep allowances, go from part time to full time, free wine and meal, extra annual leave, dont process an item of mail for six years. Worst thing is Moya Greene took my colleague shares money to pay for it. Area reps (Ron Jeremy) alright though, as a local councellor, he also gets £11000 as well as being paid by royal mail.

Why's that? WCM has been ratified and agreed by the CWU so why should any rep distance him/herself from something agreed nationally at HQ?

Personally i think wcm is a farce and for a couple of reasons
1-Managment say our safety is there paramount concern dont make me laugh .If they had a choice between 2 posties ,1 came in on his time , took his full allocation of meal relief ,put his seat belt on AT ALL TIMES ,locked his van ,dont read mail when driving ,etc but claims 1hr overtime or a postie who doesnt do any of these but finishes early ,managment would go for the 2nd postie EVERYTIME .We all know this They say we want to involve the workforce in there decisions ,i know in our office thats not the case ITS THERE WAY END OFF

Pre-WCM there was talk of shared slots being abolished on all frames, which actually makes sense from an prep effiency perspective, yet RM2000 frames have decreased in size at our gaff since the delivery methods revision... All because of WCM's floorspace agenda!

Management are so hell-bent on WCM that they will not accept its flaws such as reduced real world prep rates, which is so ironic considering their own revision agenda of trying to find savings.

I cannot see how WCM is making the depot indoor work happen better, assigning specific roles to people before frame prep time has issues, for example being able to take a short break from doing IPS to take a tray of mail back to the frame gives the "grey cells" a minute or two to recover from the mental strain of sorting in front of a 40+ IPS box unit. Not to mention the IPS porter isle is so narrow between two back-to-back IPS sections that the different section porters cannot easily get past each other with their giant "shopping trolleys."

... Aboslute mystery why this was ratified by the union, unless it is because they see it is so inefficient that is actually protecting jobs.
