Later start times

Our DOM in his wisdom (l I use the word wisdom loosely) has now put the rurals start time to 07.42 from a 07.30 start and some walks now at 06.27 instead of 06.15 he says this is to do with the 39 hr week for full time workers. I work a 27 and a half hr week and my new start time is now 09.30 whuch puts me to finish at 15.00hrs- I thought all walks had to be off the street by 14.15 !!! Also can the DOM enforce a break of twenty mins minimum before you leave the office even if you start at quarter to eight and are ready to go by quarter past nine?

The last letter times have changed, 1500 for towns and 1600 for rurals so you can be out delivering until then. And yes, he can insist on you taking your break before you go out on delivery.

Although, we were told at the last agreement that the latest time we would be starting would be 0700 but that is another thing the union never kept on top of

I think the phrase was most, like Saturday finishes most will be finished by 2pm but of course for those who haven't yet had a revision nothings changed yet and that's about two thirds so we're still at the most stage.........................

Is this really true? We are due to start our P/L in 5 weeks starting at 7am til 3pm (PT start at 9am) but the manager want everyone to take their break at 9am but I have argued (I'm PT) that I will be walking in to work straight on to break, I can't really see the point of this.

No its not true, your break needs to be somewhere near the middle of your shift.

If only have a single break, which is normally the case for PT, then it can not be at the start or end of your shift. This would be in breach of the Way Forward Agreement

Breaks at the beginning or end of attendance

Where an attendance is provided with more than one break, the second break may be scheduled at the beginning or end, in which case attendance is not required solely for booking on or off. A single break should not be scheduled at the beginning or end of the attendance.

Not down to the manager,Breaks should be scheduled and agreed as part of a revision process.
