hi, im new to royal mail on a 30 hour a week contract , 8.18 - 2.18 .. on them hours what am i expected to do? because somedays i have to throw my own work in ( last tray ) sometimes someone will come and just do it.. am i supposed to put my door 2 doors in and sort them out ? also am i supposed to sort re directions and knock downs?
sorry for lots of questions just making sure some people aint trying to take the piss at the office

I work same hours. Apart from the last tray all other mail should have been thrown off when you come in. Doesn't always happen for various reasons, but more often than not it has been thrown off.
Re-directions need to be done before bagging up.
I have to prep my D2D's and put them in the frame.

All depends on the duty - I'm on 30 hours and I prep & deliver the whole thing.

It will vary from office to office. In my DO 30 hrs get their sequenced mail preped for them. If anything this is advantageous for PT since they have 5:30 to prep manual mail mail and do the delivery where as FT will have about the same time or a little less (2hrs ish IPS) but have to prep all their mail.

Doesn't it depend on your delivery span? Ours is 3 and half hours so prep everything on a six hour duty

As a rule,a 6hr day usually means only the IPS is knocked.

Any reasonable request given to you by your line manager...
If by the time you are nearly ready to tie up the frame, you realise you will not finish inside your contract hours, you need to inform your lino and either offer to complete the walk with overtime or follow cut-off procedures.

Part timers should have all mail prepped when you come in. Apart from bag and redirection. You will probably have make up your D2ds.

And the really annoying thing ; if they took the absorbtion (which is permanently tagged to my round) off... then the job would be just about doable.

im on 25 hours a week and go into empty frame so have to do all prep, but go in an hour early and book it every day, oh yes and lapsing on monday and tuesdays.

As above I'm on 25 hrs, usually come in to an empty frame, do all the prep, re-directs and D2Ds, then out on delivery. I usually do between 1 and 2 hrs OT each day, I don't hang about but don't kill myself either.

I think the few 30hr people at our place do a fair bit of prepping too. As a 25 hour contract it should all be prepped for you but more than that you do some yourself.
