Union Skills course

Does anyone know if it is obligatory for new reps to go on the union skill 1 course? The reason i ask is my branch secretary is pressuring me to go on the course, however if i do have to go it will cause quite a few problems at home with childcare etc. I have also been told that should i not attend then they can ask for me to resign my rep position.

Is this correct?

Tell him you will do the TUC union skills online course due to child care and see what happens

No Branch is going to ask you to resign because you cannot attend the US1 course due to family commitments.
That would be ridiculous,as far as i'm aware only Equality and Diversity is mandatory and that's a 1 day course.
Tell your Branch to look into the possibility of a regional US1 course that would allow you to attend during work hours and still manage your other commitments.

If there is enough reps in the area that have'nt done the the Skills 1 course your branch can set up a local course then you would'nt have to stay away.

Thanks for the responses. I have just checked my e-mails, it is not the skills 1 course, but the procedures and agreements one.

I done that as a local course, think there was about 12 of us from around the area on it and I have to say that is one definitely worth doing.
