Help how do i leave ? terminate contract ?

hi i have been with the royal mail for 5 months on a contract i recieved the new contract today my contract is up on 05/08/12 but i am looking to leave as i start college next month. was just wondering how i go about / best way to go about leaving the royal mail as i am young

Give a weeks notice if you have been treated well.

yes i will but my contract expires in 6 days how do i go about it do i send a letter or email or verbally tell my boss or give my boss a letter ?

As to the question.

If your contract is up and you do not want to renew it all you have to do is inform your Line manager. That can be in writing, or just by telling him verbally.

If your contact is permanent or temporary and is finishing on a different date to that in your contract then its better to do it in writing, but there is nothing wrong with informing them verbally.

If you want to write a letter then it does not have to be a long letter. It can be just:

Dear Mr {Managers Name}

It is with some regret that I must officially inform you that I wish to terminate my contract of employment on {date}.

Yours sincerly

{Your Name}

You can add extra bits about how willing you are to attend any meeting they want, and that you enjoyed your time but these are not really a requirement they just make the letter a bit more "freindly".
