I got nipped on the ankle by a dog on Saturday and it scratched the back of my leg. Nothing serious, but told customer that it would be reported. I was given another copy of the "dogs" artice that was in the Courier recently.
What this article doesn't assist with is how to identify a dangerous dog. Are we to treat all dogs as dangerous if they bark and growl at us?
"If a dog's behaviour concerns you, do not attempt to deliver or collect mail".
Doesn't cover my situation where the owner approached me to take the mail, 2 dogs then belt out of the house and one attacks me. Fuckwit owner says "oh she only wants to play with you".....She has nipped my ankle....gert her away from me!

The f**ktards always try to play down the fact that their dog has just bitten you. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I've been bitten three times and all three owners were to blame for each respective incident.
PS Can we turn this into a 'Who's been biten the most' thread? FIrst prize is a set of shinguards and a can of doggy Mace.

The Manager is asked if they are willing to deliver the letter.
If they refuse, I wouldn't blame them, the letter along with all other mail is retained at the DO. The idea is that if the householder doesn't receive any mail at all it will only be a matter of time before they contact the office wanting an explanation. That of course is when the Manager is able to deal with the issue without a potential dog hazard.

All dogs can be dangerous, there is a really good nature dog on my round, did not see it for a while, when I did its whole good nature was gone. Talked to the owner and was told it had a skin condition which was beeing treated. After treatment the dogs good nature is back, just re-enforces my view, never trust them and you can not go wrong. I have only been bitten once and have stop delivering mail through one letter box, the cat puts its whole paw through letter box and does a swipping motion, gets your hand even when using the peg. Thanks for all your replies. I don't really have a lot of confidence in the DM (DOM? sorry getting used to the jargon) will actually send a letter. I should be given it to deliver although I have to do another round occasionally, so cannot monitor it. I had a dog threatening me a couple of months ago which the owner couldn't control. Told the manager, who said that a letter would be sent. I haven't delivered one 
I spoke to the neighbour of this recent dog incident today (she must have heard me shouting at the owner) and said that as far as she knew the two were the most docile and playful pair. What pissed me off most was the attitude of the owner. No comprehension that I felt threatened, and that I had been nipped on the ankle.

As long as you do your job properly and report it as an accident, (entered into ERICA), the Manager/H&S Rep must then investigate it and must action the contact with the householder.

The general public are friggin STUPID. A lot of dogs attack the postman, they are obviously threatened for a number of reasons e.g. we have a big bag, we wear all red ( a danger colour), we walk up their actual path onto their terriotory and put stuff through their door daily. It's not rocket science, I have to listen to drips say stupid s**t about their dogs daily, just keep the f***ers away from me you retards!
