D2D's and throwing up.
Hi. I guess there is a link on here somewhere, but i cannot find it.
I am covering someone's day off tomorrow. There is also a part time round included in the round as well. I have just gone into the office to find all the D2D's thrown up for the part time round, and i am bloody annoyed. I cannot stand throwing up mail with leaflets in the frame.....no-one else does it apart from the part timer. I don't understand why they cannot be thrown off when i have finished my own prep? It makes my job more awkward, but his easier, plus i hate finding letters in leaflets......not good.....
Any advice please?

Have a quiet word with him tomorrow and tell him that you find it easier to prep without the d2d's in the frame.tommythreesheds wrote: Any advice please?
Worth bearing in mind that he may have returned to the office early and was told to prep them perhaps?

Re: D2D's and throwing up.
The actual guidance is that they go in last but it is only guidance and as Pat says there may have been other reasons behind it.
By all of them do you mean that day's or all of them.

Re: D2D's and throwing up.
I hate it the other way round -D2Ds first for me. There wont be time to throw door to doors in after you have finished prepping... what if there were 5 D2Ds - you will be there waiting at least 20-25minutes.
The part-timers in my DO have the D2D thrown in for them by the managers or people on light duties/indoor/half delivery etc.
The mail just simply goes in front of the D2D and they act as markers for the end of an address. D2Ds in first has very little to do with letters being inside. I have 150 double slots (flats): D2Ds in first and then odd numbered addresses in front of D2D and evens at the back.

cant see how any1 can think prepping the d2ds after the mails been prepped is the best way off doing it lol, n my do the full timers all go to prep the part timers d2ds 4 that day at start time for 10 mins, we do 6 diagnal rows it actually works pretty well, although most the full timers tend to box theres all off in the 1er on sat after returning or come n early on a monday, idiots

Why won't there be time to throw D2D in after you have finished prep? Unless your answer is your contracted hours are over (i.e. it is hometime unless agreeing to do paid overtime), any other answer is risking disciplinary proceedings!chrisj wrote:I hate it the other way round -D2Ds first for me. There is good reason to throw D2D in later, the same as why is good practice to throw in "manual" after "sequenced"... The higher prep rate for "sequenced" is partly based on the frame being clear when throwing it in, along of course with the theory that it follows the frame slots, having other items inthe slots is naturally going to slow down the "sequenced" prep rate.
Yes, doing the D2D after the "sequenced" and "manual" can be a mare with double slots (pull out mail from slot, find where the addreses change over and place D2D between them and behind them), but this is not our problem. As far as I'm aware, post P&L revisions were originally supposed to remove all multiple delivery point shared slots, but then the sham that is "World Class Mail" kicked in and it was all about maximising floorspace rather than one slot per deliery point. Many frames at my depot really need an extra base (like we used to have pre-revision incidentally) because of horrendous double slot issues, we all moan to our rep but they say their hands are tied because of agreements being made at a higher level between the union and RM.
Like with a lot of our job, we should not be going out of our way to not comply with protocol, whether that be health&safety or security of the mail. We all have so many hours to fill each working day, we should all be following guidelines (allowing for reasonable requests by management) and not cutting corners, whether we choose to finish at our contract time or do overtime is our choice...

Re: D2D's and throwing up.
I thought the introduction of RM2000 was supposed to provide a single slot for each delivery point. Our frames are being redrawn to fix the planner's mess and I wanted to get my walk into single slots but I'd need a frame with 4 wings. The DOM informs me there's no money available for that.IloveMYredTROLLEY! wrote:As far as I'm aware, post P&L revisions were originally supposed to remove all multiple delivery point shared slots

There's money,£2 Billion spondoolies if i'm not mistaken. The DOM informs me there's no money available for that.
http://www.royalmailgroup.com/cy/royal- ... -agreement" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The Agreement - Business Transformation 2010 and Beyond - means Royal Mail Letters can continue with its much-needed £2 billion modernisation, including the introduction of new automated machinery and delivery equipment and changes in the way our people work. It also ensures a fair reward for our people that reflects the vital part they play in the transformation of Royal Mail.
Your DOM is an arse.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

D2D should be prepped last because it is the guideline procedure, it maximises your prep rate for addressed mail and by preping addressed mail first missorts can be extracted earlier. I don't see how preping D2D last would make you later out. If anything you should be out earlier because your addressed mail would be preped faster.combo_king wrote:cant see how any1 can think prepping the d2ds after the mails been prepped is the best way off doing it lol
I'm sure if he asks around other offices will have some spare where walks have been taken out. Most DOs seem to have a corner of the yard strewn with various IPS/RM2000 frames.Mr Rush wrote:I thought the introduction of RM2000 was supposed to provide a single slot for each delivery point. Re: D2D's and throwing up.
alwaysdo my D2Ds in bundles of 20 and stick them at the back of each bundle.
One it stops the frame being filled up with junk mail and stops letters from getting stuck in them.
No brainer really

Re: D2D's and throwing up.
tommy, each to their own. Your original post is now a bit confusing. You have a round that includes someone else's walk/round - like a combo???
Anyways, there are some holes in your logic... The mail do not always arrive at the same time or do not become available to throw out at the same time - so the idea of clear frames for mech and then flats and then d2ds and then deliverable packets is kinda fanciful.
The rate of work is not going to be much faster with a few d2ds in the slots beforehand but the rate of throwing out 5 d2ds into packed slots will be considerable more and to be honest fiddly in some cases and well annoying given the nature of some door to door items.
One slot per address - wow! With high-rise buildings and many other smaller flats including a 3 story buildings - I have a total of about 230 double slots - and many bloody key fobs/keys to boot. Just imagine what the size of my frame will be if they are made to be one slot per address. My frame has 7 segments already - even with the double slots.
I suppose you are only doing the round for a day. If not, you can always talk to the part-timer or do what most other posties that get so frustrated do - pull them out!!!
