Lapsing Insurance

All the PT workers in my office were made to lapse this morning which is rare as the DO is very under staffed, most of them were in at 7.45am (official start time 8.15am) and the manager were forcing them to go out and do the lapsing by 8am as they needed the vans back in. Now many of them were arguing that they should not go out until 8.15am due to insurance purposes if they get injured, but the manager claimed they are covered by insurance from 7am on. Anyone clarify this ?

(P.S Before anyone says, I know these Silly Billy's should not come in til 8.15am, but this is Royal Mail staff for you)

They've basically volunteered to work,they are insured.
The fact that they are doing it for free has no bearing on the insurance.

They are certainly not well. They do not start until 8.15.

If they come in PAID at 7.45 and they WANT to do some extra, fair play. Insurance? As long as they signed in, signed out etc they are covered. It's a silly argument to make under the circumstance. The only reasoning I can come to is that they do not mind working for free but want to be sure they are insured. Well just tell them they are... idiots...

No, lucky that it's not prepped as they will have to factor in returning to the office and going back to the lapse delivery point. Less lapsing if you work to your time, or more OT if you want it. Use this is your favour.
