Indoor revision,,,,prepping walks ????

hi,,,recently had an indoor revision at our prison,,,,noticed now u can only breathe at given seconds every hour,,,,but 1 daft idea (seems daft 2 me)
is the preppers have to prep all the walks between em,,,so say theres 35 walks and 8 preppers then its 4.5 walks each,,,,,so be it,,,i dont have a problem with that,,,,,lets see em panic when the mail picks up and there pushing us out the door cos of cut offs,,,,,,,the bit i dont like is someone else has to prep my walk,,,,,im only aloud on it when all walks are in.

so i did as i was told this morn,,,,on to it,,,did the redirections and kill offs,,,,,got the walk tied up and left...........then came the problem off missorts and items i would normally kill off,,,,i.e boarded up houses,,,,dead peoples mail,,,,in the end i had to pouch off quite a few letters and back track on meself to deliver poorly prepped letters,,,,,i.e house num 26 out of order so on and so on....

i reckon its a p+ss poor idea getting other ppl to throw in your walk......again another example,,,,prepping a walk for a lad and he is prepping the walk next to me

Daft but surely you all prep your own duties first then move to a spare? Next thing is a bag search on return and you will be a target with so many returns!

I can understand your frustration with mis-prepped items however you should not be killing off mail before attempting delivery. By deliberately deciding to not make as addressed deliveries you are wilfully delaying the mail.
If someone has died or moved house it doesn't matter your job is to deliver as addressed. If a building was boarded up when you passed it on the way to work, it doesn't necessarily mean it will be inaccessible when you are out on delivery later. Just take all non endorsed items out with you and attempt delivery, when you return to the office, kill off any items which were intended for inaccessible delivery points. Do not accept items of mail off occupants because they say 'that person is not here', you are paid to deliver that item it is their responsibility to endorse the mail and post it in a post box for return.

Do not deliver items of mail which were mis-prepped, return them to the office endorsed as mis-prepped. Your reason for doing so is simple, items inserted into incorrect slots on the frame were not subject to your redirection checks etc. and as such may not be destined for that address.

Whats the problem with that?,I just ask them if they are refusing it,take it off them and mark as such then kill off when I get back,job done,now tell me thats wrong.

Yes your right. Wrongly prepped mail needs to be checked incase of redirection, call and collect or keepsafe instructions.

Although i don't agree with what seems like a bonkers system in place in your office centenaryman,other people prepping your walk is nothing new and something that will become more common especially with WCM being introduced to D.O.'s.
If the missorts are a major problem talk to whoever it is doing the prepping and try to identify problem areas.

Well you're not allowed to do that, if the mail states WH Smith 179 High Street, it gets delivered to 179 High Street, regardless of the fact that it's now a Balti House. The rules are simple enough, you deliver to an address not a recipient and WH Smith was only the intended recipient. You are not in a position to determine whether or not an agreement has been made between two parties when a building move has occurred so don't guess if an item is returned endorsed kill it off otherwise deliver it.

Another reason why returning the items can be beneficial. It may help identify a pattern of a specific area of the RM2000 causing issues, a particular colour in the frame labelling etc.

Although we had a few double preppers prior to the revisions, for part time staff deliveries, it has now become a major part of the indoor activity post revision. The fact that we have css machines means there is less IPS and so there are a large number of double preppers, often prepping 2 other rounds whilst someone else preps theirs. The preppers also come in on staggered times, and some duties have an early starter who preps both deliveries and a late starter who having completed the delivery element then takes out large packets for two/three HCT duties finishing about 4.30.

We just had a meeting today regarding our revision (advice needed)
Anyway it went to a vote and got voted in. There isn't any major changes so am i right in saying if there isn't any major changes to the duties in the office, the duty holder, can opt his duty out. Hope this isn't the case. Any advice.... Thanks
