Numbers in the caller's office
Just for a jolly jape today we counted the P739's / customers served in a 40 minute period. Total ? 45 (including surcharges and customs charges) Going on an average of say, 40 per hour for the 6 hours the office is open, that's 240 people called to collect from the office today. Any ideas of figures in your office? We've also noticed an increasing trend of customers 'saving up' their cards and collecting 2 or 3 parcels per visit. Any comments?

I have hated doing the door since the Olympic tickets came into play worse than Christmas at least 200-300 on Saturday, I cannot wait for it to be over.

45..Think yourself lucky mate..our office which is smack in the middle of town...we get at least a couple of hundred every hour i would guess as the post office in town isn't very popular..hence the reason people come to our office to post things..send mail/packets all over the world....i remember last Xmas...as i left the office having done my shift...there was the biggest queue right around the office...this was 30 mins before we closed..i counted 223 customers waiting....many several hours..there was nearly a riot when the staff closed the doors at 2.00pm that day...glad i was in the boozer lol

Re: Numbers in the caller's office
Just wondering which 40 min period was chosen?
If you compare the first 40 min period from office opening time with the final 40 mins when office closes, then i'm certain difference will be far greater. Therefore, not the best basis to form a daily average (notwithstanding a Saturday when most folks are off work).
Merely a thought...

Over 250 per day and late wednesday 6 pm - 8 pm .. 50+. We have only ONE person working at the time so its very very very hard to manage ( serving customers , loging in 300+ items on computer and attending phones).

Re: Numbers in the caller's office
Yes well we are joined to the post office and the callers door is before the entrance to the post office so foreigners naturally assume its the post office because they haven't got far enough down the street yet!

Re: Numbers in the caller's office
Just to clarify, we did it 'just to see' whilst me and a colleague covered breakfast for 40 minutes. I would say that it was about 10/10.30 am on a Saturday. What I didn't clarify was that was EACH. We are tired of telling the DOM we need more hours in the callers (after all, post is down and packets are up) so he has agreed now to monitor the situation. So, we now throw all the used P739's in a tray and count them up every day. Hopefully by counting every day for 7 seven days we should be able to have a representative count. What this doesn't take into account is the time of year. By 11.30am last Saturday (4th) we'd served 250 customers. Wednesday is the mega day with the callers office not closed at all, it's a struggle to get stuff scanned, put away and serve customers. The phone generally gets ignored which results in HUGE numbers of CLEO the next morning. We don't get involved with posting letters, packets or selling stamps, that's the PO job and I wouldn't be very happy if they started delivering letters..........

Re: Numbers in the caller's office
Our Callers office is'nt attached to the DO and we have 2 shifts that work there, each alone. This is how RM operate, someone has chest pains and collapses in the DO, taken to hospital etc etc. When that person returns to work what do they do, they put that person in the Callers Office alone and forget to cover the break. The managers and posties must stop thinking of the Callers Office as a nice cushty light duties job because it has'nt been that for a long time.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

Re: Numbers in the caller's office
I read that and thought you were talking about the stress of working in the Caller's Office. Delivery's all about physical stress, but I can only imagine the mental stress from working the counter - especially since many colleagues view filling out a P739 card properly as an unreasonable request.Stormproof wrote:This is how RM operate, someone has chest pains and collapses in the DO, taken to hospital etc etc.
The machine stops.
