Our office is currently summer lasping because according to the dom the Glasgow union has a verbal agreement with the sector manger that we can lapse during summer traffic levels. (A colleague asked the dom to see the agreement but was told it was only agreed verbally)
We are currently in week 13 of p&l and have numerous part time staff coming in early on overtime and working days off to ensure that lapsing takes place every day. This infuriates me because we have roughly 35/65 ratio of full time to part time so there is plently of work for us to do yet they pay out vast amounts of overtime just to get us to lapse.
A few of us cut off at our time but most people just work past there time as they don't want the confrontation with the dom.
This is the 4th week we have been lapsing for, the first week we lapsed we were told we had to lapse as it was an uso issue but this turned into summer traffic level lasping since our rep went off on holiday although i don't think he will be too bothered as it's his duty we are lapsing.
the idea of lapsing is because we dont have enough work to take us up to our correct finishing time. thus we lapse to give us enough work so we do finish at our correct time. if he has people coming in early and/or working their days off to achieve this, then its a total paradox and the whole lapsing scenario is utter bullshit,,,,,which we all know it is

Or are they doing it to support staff shortages in the office or in the sector?

and from what i hear the rest of pa is turning out the same, area rep completely in with dsm, and branch completely in with managers in mail centre as they like their full time release too much from what i hear!

Staff shortages, we're not even allowed our full compliment of people off in the summer these days, still, mustn't complain, I'll get mine in the winter...................when it'll be dry and sunny

Staff shortages, we're not even allowed our full compliment of people off in the summer these days, still, mustn't complain, I'll get mine in the winter...................when it'll be dry and sunny

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
They are not lasping to allow extra holidays or Saturdays off. Plently of folk still have anual leave from last year to take, me included.
The sick level was high the first few weeks of p&l but now there is usually 1 or 2 spare bodies each day (apart from Saturdays of course ) to clear the cut-offs or parcels that the hct don't take out, but the reason we usually have spare bodies is that staff are working there days off.
