I have phoned HMRC directly and they were really great and you get 100 pence in the pound back not 59p in the pound.

You did well to get through to HRMC on the phone...i tried four times last week and got nowhere...lots of answer machine message..press this..press that...you are 1000th in the queue and your call will be dealt with shortly..give a rest...

I've noticed recently that some weeks, even though I never work overtime so may take home pay should always be the same, yet some weeks I pay 20p more tax. I don't know why. Is the tax man taking 20p extra some weeks off everyone hoping we'll not notice?

Agreed on doing it for yourself. I've been paying too much tax through RM last year and this year. Got a full refund on last year's though HMRC and on this year's through RM directly. Why pay the union half on what you're owed to do something so simple??? If the CWU was any sort of decent union they would be telling members to do the same instead of trying to rip them off. I don't have the time to check where the right link is within the link below, but it'll be in there somewhere...

If the CWU was any sort of decent union they would be telling members to do the same instead of trying to rip them off.

The union did regarding Uniform Cleaning Tax Rebates as RM did'nt inform HMRC. If you still arn't getting a Tax Rebate on cleaning you can get a form from your Rep or Manager to fill in and send to HMRC (Glasgow if I remember rightly).
