Weight off the shoulder, murder on the legs. Will they ever get it right? Nah, I don't think so, either. :cuppa

Same in my office, you can count on one hand the number of people using trolleys, flagged it up to the union but they don't appear to be interested :arrrghhh

My area also, my regular postman uses the trolley, but cover for his day off its on their shoulder. The bottom line is, you run your butt off, get back early, you open yourself for 1) Getting sent out on cut off's 2) Getting drops added on from a walk that's near which is failing. The runners are not only slitting their own throat but others. :evil/mad

It's a bit strange, the silence from the union.
You negotiate an agreement to take the weight off the shoulder. :Applause
You negotiate the mandatory use of delivery equipment designed to take the weight off the shoulder, which will not only protect the health of your members it will also protect their jobs. :Applause
Then you do absolutely nothing either to educate members on the need to use this equipment or force the employer to ensure that their management teams abide by the agreement.

I recently visited a WCM delivery office, there were posters here, there and everywhere warning of the dangers of slips, trips, falls, dogs etc and i had to listen for 30 minutes about how safety was the number 1 priority in World Class Mail....no mention of delivery methods despite this office having had a delivery methods revision 18 months ago and the rather embarrassing fact that a senior branch official is based there.
I spoke to some of the members...no-one uses a trolley...the duties are unachievable with trolleys. :cuppa

On my duty I was told I must always use the HCT every day without fail along with another duty, but the cover always use bags, which I can't really get because the trolley actually cuts time because I can loop round and take some sneaky shortcuts.

Fish, perhaps it,s because the Union have realised that they have negotiated a pile of shite, as trolleys DO NOT take weight off the shoulder for those who have traditionally used cycles, as there has never been weight on the shoulder. They must now realise that trolleys will create extensive physical problems for walkers and therefore turning a blind eye.

Again, exactly.... Royal Mail CAUSED the problem of weight on the shoulders in the first place.

It's weight off shoulders as far as when bikes were taken off us and we were lumbered with bags on shoulders after the act, but we are all told to pull these trolleys now. Do you really think that helps with muscular problems? Of course it doesn't. Just because when they took us off bikes, and we were using bags on shoulders for a short time, doesn't make this new method better than the original one.

The ONLY REASON RM are interesting in trolleys is because you can pack more s**t into them and deliver more. And that is that.

Fish, how does trollies save jobs? From our revision it will end up costing more jobs as they merge two walks into one and give you a trolly. (That's a job lost by the way). Or is it a case of I am alright jack? The recruitment has stopped for over three years in our DO.

Have you tried using a trolley? There is significant arm strain and muscle use is high.

It's all utter nonsense.

when revision came in I remember being told that trollies were MANDATORY.

As soon as the mail started backing up, manager was telling people to "use their discretion".

Now, the few people who still use trollies as a matter of principle are being bullied, harassed, followed, timed, threatened with conduct code when others (not using trollies) manage to complete the walk.

CWU should be ashamed of this agreement, but looks like they still not managed to muster up an apology to their members, or even a slight aceptance that the deal they cut was a pile of w#nk, and has exposed more members to bullying and harassment than ever before.

Fair enough Pat but only 25% of deliveries were using bikes pre-2010 so what about the majority of us who weren't...I was using bags on shoulders for nearly 20 years.
Fish, how does trollies save jobs?
Everybody who has used a trolley agrees on one thing...it takes longer...that protects jobs.

For nearly two years and i haven't had any "arm strain" issues but then i don't overload it.
The loops are supposed to be around 40 minutes, how much mail is that in reality...3 maybe 4 bundles not much more than 10 kg plus packets in a trolley designed to carry 32kg...to be honest i've had more arm strain lifting a pint.
If members are accepting stupid loops and cramming 32kg into a trolley and dragging them up and down unsuitable terrain of course they will have issues
It's all utter nonsense.
Nonsense it might be but bikes are history, there will be no miracle come back so members have to decide...sensible use of trolleys or carrying bags for more than 4 hours and ending up with severe Musculoskeletal disorders in later life...and not that much later either.
That is the stark reality of the choice facing members...it's a no brainer for me.

And why would you want to do that? Job & Finish is History. :cuppa
