Posties Milage Walked... Check Yours

It has to be said that being a postie has the following fact....

Posties have the only occupation that require you to WALK 4 to 8 miles a day IN ALL WEATHERS...

So it is quite reasonable to expect that legs and feet may suffer at some point in a posties life....

26 miles a week is MOST common and that is walking a MARATHON distance every week.

.5 years x 26 ...is ....6 thousand miles..... walked

10 years x 26 ...is ....12 thousand miles..... walked

15 years x 26 ...is ....18 thousand miles..... walked

20 years x 26 ...is ....24 thousand miles..... walked

25 years x 26 ...is ....31 thousand miles..... walked

Its only 3 thousand miles to walk across the USA.

i've an app that uses gps to measures speed, distance covered etc

the shortest walking route i've done was 8.86 miles and the longest one averages around 15 miles (measured this one everyday for a week as couldn't believe how long it was)

I use Nike + GPS which is for running but works quite well. 9 miles I do generally.

More likely to be your joints that cause the problems. Knee/Ankle/Hip/Back

It's interesting that we're only allowed one pair of shoes per year. How many miles for example should a pair shoes last taking into account your walking over 2500 miles a year, plus all the walking around in the office plus getting to work and back

The general rule is 500 miles per pair but it can be slightly more or less depending on your weight (told to me by my podiatrist).

The general rule is 500 miles per pair but it can be slightly more or less depending on your weight (told to me by my podiatrist).

Fortunately that is incorrect, you are entitled to as many pairs of RM footwear as is required, they cannot, and state they will not, refuse you footwear as it is a requirement to wear them and to an expected standard.

I cover mainly city centre jobs and I do between 5 and 9 miles on those.

The longest delivery I have done so far was a residential at 11.82 miles and half of that was climbing stairs so pegasus probably thinks it's half that distance.

I think the hips and back are favs for giving out first
