Booking Overtime

I'm a part-timer on 24 hour contract, recently been doing some prep which has boosted my hours a fair bit.

Anyways, in my office, I duno if this is the same in others, there are only specific times we can fill in the overtime sheets, as the wages woman takes the sheets halfway through and inputs them on the computer.

So we have a window of 6.30 til about 8.30 to do our overtime sheets. The sheets are then supposed to come back about 9.15-10.00 giving us another 'window' to fill these sheets in.

Now we all know how busy things are in most mail offices, sometimes I am pretty tired and forget to fill the sheets in during these 'windows'. Recently though, the sheets haven't been coming back for this second 'window', instead the line managers have been guarding them, which just makes me forget even more to be honest as I don't get the visual cue of seeing the sheets in their usual location, just means I have to then find the appropriate line manager who is protecting the precious sheets. This week I have been underpaid by 2 and a half hours. I haven't yet gone to see the wages woman, she is very cocky and always aggressive with any query, with me anyway.

I'm just wondering, is it this way in other offices? I have only been in RM 6 months and have never worked anywhere in 12 years that has such a daft way of booking overtime and never had so many issues with management being such twats about it all.

Every other job I've had, the managers are helpful if you have any pay issues and happy to rectify any errors, so why is it that I actually feel afraid to go and see this wages woman??! Is the re a culture of 'rule by fear' in RM? Is this the way it should be?

Overtime claims reduce the bonuses paid to managers, that is why some posties have a hard time claiming their rightful extra money.

In another depot, not my own, ovetime is not paid at all... It is accumilated into whole days to take off in lieu! (Cooked books, anyone?)

Yeah,,,,add another office there,,,,,,,no revision yet,,,only really go over on a saturday,,,,but come monday morning we have to play hunt the overtime sheet,,,,,think the bosses take it home with them

We don't have an overtime sheet! We just tell the manager what we're owed and chase it when we don't get paid it.

Interesting. In my DO we (part timers) have to beg for OT sheets for the last two weeks. And still don't get them!!!
Write OT on scraps of paper... Mind you they have not paid be valid OT for the last two weeks.
I do see a grieveance coming
Has only been this difficult since Summer Lapsing has come in. Is that a co-incidence?

my advice to any part time post person is tell them (manager) you will not be able complete your round and then the ball is in there court they will offer
you over time to finish it if they dont just break off simple.

The linos here seem to go through phases of 'hide the sheet', presumably linked to a chewing from the DOM. Never known a company like it for making it difficult to get what you're owed. One of the problems is the amount of overtime required due to the ridiculously large amount of staff on short hours contracts, so much needs booking, yet there is pressure from above to keep the sheets clean causing serious conflict of priorities.

Yep it's pathetic, they short staff the place and then hide the overtime sheets, I've never worked anywhere like it. I expected Royal mail to be pretty professional with things like this, being a government-linked organisation. My mum worked for the council for 25 years and never had anything like this.

I've found it's far easier to book overtime when the office is in a chaotic state - the sheets are always around for the 25hr and casual guys! It shouldn't be like this, but that's the reality.

My managers quite often come round to my fitting with the sheet to get me to fill it in before they had it over to the dragon...sorry .... i mean wages data inputter type "lady". not all managers are all bad ......

Our wages woman is an absolute dragon, the scourge of the office I would say. Anyways, after having a go at me, she made me go and see the DOM to 'authorise' the 2 and a bit hours I forgot to book.

So the DOM, after having had a go at me, decided he would 'let me' book the the 2 and a bit hours overtime 'this time'.

It's like being back at school all over again, being told off by people who are to my eye low-intelligence, high-aggression muppets who have somehow clambered their way up the crappy RM ladder. Bullying culture in RM? You bet there is! All I ask is to be spoken to like a normal human being, like I have done in pretty much every other job I've ever done to be honest!

Wow I forgot to sign for 2 and a bit hours overtime, reason for 2 'tellings off' and generally being spoken to like a piece of s**t, I think not. w*****s.

Ditto in our office...never a problem My manager always reminds me to put it in also.
