Hi
I've been on a a six month contract for almost 18 months now renewed each time, this was full time 40 hours a week over 5 days.
Now they say my contract will not be renewed as 6 month but 3 months and 30 hours, also the retention allowance and d2d payments etc will be 25% less.
Also holiday i had booked off almost 30 days some carried over will all be happening on a 30 hour contract so paid as 6 hours not 8.
It's not started yet (30 hour contract) but is just about to, currently they are lapsing walks every day and threatining to make people take their meal break
before leaving the office, mondays tuesdays we can finish an hour early and probably saturday 30 minutes but the rest might be an hour or less over so it balances out.
Do I have to do overtime on a 6 hour contract and are they allowed to pay my holiday at the reduced rate. I'm ok with coming in at 8:30 , tying up and going home at 14:30
but not working 40 hours a week at random start and finish times on a 30 hour contract.
Can they lower my hours saying they don't need me for 40 and then expect me to work 40 hours whenever they want?
Thanks for any advice, I'm a union member but they haven't got back to me.

You don't have to do overtime if you don't want and if i were in your situation and didn't need the money i would tell them to increase your hours or stick the OT cheeky sods.

if they pay you for 30 hours then you work for 30 hours, simples.
OT is your choice, if you don't want to do it, don't do it.
I was put down from 40 hours to 25 hours 3 years ago and from that day to this I have never done overtime ( apart from the two week pressure of Christmas ), changed my day off or done anything to help RM.
am I a bit Bitter? probably lol, but why should'nt I be
its all about saving hours left right and centre to your manager and its going to happen to a lot more people :(

No you won't as you have accrued your holidays as per your contracted hrs. Also holiday i had booked off almost 30 days some carried over will all be happening on a 30 hour contract so paid as 6 hours not 8.
You will need to keep an eye on what you have accrued during your 40hrs stint.
If you take a day off while you are on the 30hr contract then that is only 6hrs not 8hrs/a day.
You will of made hrs especially if your office has gone over to the new system,PSP and it will be easier to track.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I'm hoping to get another job, saving up for a deposit on a house and Sainsburys have a late shift I can work on, I just don't want to deal with managers at Royal Mail every day asking them for overtime being talked down to every day just grates after a while.Royal_Fail wrote:You don't have to do overtime if you don't want and if i were in your situation and didn't need the money i would tell them to increase your hours or stick the OT cheeky sods.
