basically I went out on a collection this afternoon, only two boxes in a really rural area. Because I havnt got my own I.D on the pda the manager told me to use some other guys. Problem was I didnt make a note of the pin and by the time I got to the boxes it had locked. Had no mobile phone signal anywhere in the area, tried a phonebox and it didnt work. Went in to the pub thats next to the box and luckily the guy behind the bar leant me his phone. I tried ringing the Dom several times, another manager and the office non stop for atleast 10mins but got no answer! I drove to an area about 2miles away to get signal on my phone and tried several times again, either got answer phone or constant ringing with no answer! grrr
In the end I just emptied the two boxes, took out the barcodes and took them back to the office. When I got back to the office the managers had gone home but I found the correct pin, logged in and scanned the barcodes. My thinking is whoever does the collections tomorrow can just reattach the barcodes inside the 2boxes. Should of taken me like an hour to do, ended up taking 1hour and 40mins, nightmare!!
Think I'll get in shite for this or?

You've gone the extra mile and deserve a pat on the back. As for your manager he's operating from The Wing It Book Of Management, I haven't come across this book but the majority of managers must read and abide by it.

you shouldnt get any trouble for your actions, you have actually saved him an uncomfortable phone call from his boss to explain why you missed the boxes, tell him to get your user id sorted out, it literaly takes two minutes every member of staff has one its just a matter of him logging in and getting it for you a 2 minute job

Re: Nightmare on collection
About par for the course as far as management are concerned, never available when needed...
We do not have any afternoon management........we just muddle through any problems.....
Mind you we muddle through most mornings anyway, no body wants to take responibility..
Just do the best you can is the normal answer....
Work time learning sometimes starts with i do not want any questions...we get no sensible answers if we do ask...
Answer avoidance from management.... must be a rule number 1 in their training manual.... just like MPs do on TV.
Say....What if nobody answers the phone, what am i to do... normally foxes the management.....

I've not got my own ID for the PDA either after 3 years. As fas as getting in the cr@p for what you've done, as someone has already said, you have gone above and beyond the call of duty to complete so if any questions are to be asked they should start with "Where the hell were your bosses when they should have been answering their phones?"

I think you'll find the title of that book is..."Fifty Shades of BULLSHIT"! Skullskull wrote:You've gone the extra mile and deserve a pat on the back.
