someone got suspended at our DO for re-introducing mail back into the system via a postbox, done for wilful delay. What happens next? Does the union help defend him at all even if hes guilty and what is the likelihood of getting his job back?

Yes, the union will represent him.
If he is guilty of this though, he is in big trouble.
The rep needs to be involved as quickly as possible.

Being suspended doesn't mean he will lose his job, what he has done (and confessed to) may.
If he has re posted live mail which he should of and could of (finished early) delivered he almost certainly is looking at being shown the door i'm afraid.
As always every case is unique and he really needs representation quickly, this would have been handy before he confessed to be fair...

you could get away with that if the letters were endorsed i.e. ''mad dog loose in street''. genuine excuse of course. but it could be possible to get away with it if it wasnt genuine,,,,,not that i,m suggesting or condoning that anyone does

Why did he reintroduce the mail into the system? If there is a good reason he may get a serious, if it was because he couldn't be arsed so he could finish early

yeh re-introduced due to laziness.

Well the likelihood is he's a goner - it may be he has done this persistently. Our Mail Centre isolated the mail from the collections and identified mail that had already been through the system and sent it directly to the DOM - in truth nobody was caught reintroducing mail due to laziness but because they had been mis-sorted, nobody was suspended but they were given a severe talking to and the problem of course disappeared after the revisions when P&L came in and HCTs for town so that everyone returned to the depot.
