Are there any official figures available for the amount of these items sent per year and also for previous years?

We are continually told that mail is on the decline. We have recently been told that we have had a 6% increase in the packet department. Obviously any item requiring a signature or a scan takes more time than popping a few letters through the letterbox. I have seen figures used in the planning of duties, 20-ish 'attendance calls' per 500 delivery points and also 6-ish failed deliveries of these items.

If signed for/scanned items are showing an increase, then surely this would have an impact on deliveries. So are there any figures available?

Come on, this is RM & all figures are well hidden from all of us.

If the proper figures ever see the light of day then the service will have to be modernized properly
and proper bonuses paid.

Specials are down, probably tracked gone up a fair bit and it seems like more people use recorded as well

Your Callers Office will have a system for logging each returned item. Since there is no standard system in place I'm not sure if yours will be good enough to retrieve a count of all items per year/week/month and the quantities of each type of returned item. If that is possible on your system you can use the nationally provided average of lets say 20% returns, then multiply each figure by five for a pretty good year on year/month on month/week on week packet count.

Specials are down...not in our office they ain't..today on the duty i was on i took 19 specials (yes i am a postie too)..in fact most of my colleagues took around 8+...so i disagree totally with what you say about the number of specials being down mate..in our office at least...they are on the increase

I would have guessed that Specials, over the years, did go down but may have increased in the last few years with the rise of internet shopping.

Your rep should have access to the traffic figures for your office as part of the weekly resource meetings. The traffic figures give daily numbers for each mail stream. Obviously recorded is not included as it is not seperate mail stream but an addon to other services and could not be counted separately since they are just in with normal mail.

Parcel profits are up as stated in the R M profit annoucement last month of £211 million from £27 million

So as many know about the steady increase in packets and parcels....by delivering them

If the economy gets better by xmas the deliveries will be a bigger nightmare as internet sales increase year on year.

Specials are still going down, there is probably 4 or 5 times more Tracked then there are specials
