Being Made To Deliver Surplus D2D
Interesting one from the DOM this morning. Each delivery was given 30 of last weeks surplus D2D items and told to deliver them to our first 30 stops. These addresses had either received the D2D last week or weren't due to receive this D2D. The reason given was there was too much surplus and offices aren't allowed to return more than 1% of the D2D's at the end of the week. Anyone ever heard of anything like this?

your manager will get s**t off his bosses if the d2d's are not delivered as stipulated.
he is trying to cover his ass for his poor management by sending you all out to deliver them.
it is his job to get you all to deliver the d2d's on the walks, he is not doing it. get your rep on it asap.

The amount of D2D returns wouldn't have any effect on his bonus would they?

Not directly...but they may have an effect on his job prospects.
D2D returns are the big thing now,prepare for lots of posts along the lines of Help!:dismissed for not completing my D2D.
As for your manager...taking a big risk with his job,pretty brainless move.

The next step is actually having to count our D2D's at the start of the week. Not juts going of the numbers on the box or bundle, count one by one to make sure we have the exact right amount. I wonder what he'll say when I hand him back mail because I spent so much time counting out D2D's...

However, RM have/had a contract to deliver certain D2Ds to certain addresses between certain dates. If he is telling you to deliver D2Ds outside of the official contract dates and outside of the addresses contracted then he is abrogating the contract and going outside of the D2D specification.
What he is doing is trying to hide the problem by getting posties to hide the excess in peoples letter boxes. Not sure if its safe for posties to follow his instruction, so much so that I would consider ingoring it until I received written instructions from him.

The problem with D2Ds is they are not accurately counted coming into us, I deliver to all addresses and yet I can have ones left over, last week it was 3 of one contract, 15 of another and 0 of the other............so I couldn't be just avoiding delivery with those numbers. Until they get the numbers in right then they'll never get zero returns.

I have seen myself having a big surplus of d2d on some jobs. Either the d2d place does not have the correct figures for the jobs or they are not counting them correctly.

I don't think anyone counts them. I think they probably weigh them.
Which is why a surplus of 1% is acceptable. Anything else now needs to be explained.
