Sackings at Watford?

Heard from someone today that RM ended the contracts of 30 delivery staff at Watford because they didn`t use their cars.
I find this hard to believe, but perhaps someone on here can confirm if this is true?
I haven`t done delivery for 5 or 6 years. We were often told by management that you shouldn`t use your car because of insurance, etc but I well remember those that did use their cars on the quiet. Has it really come full circle now if the above is true?
How can they possibly end someones contract for not using their own vehicle?

This is RM pushing the buttons, if it is true, they're hoping for a reaction at the least they are showing the workforce that they are in the driving seat and not the CWU. It could well be a warning to other offices contemplating taking the "Do your job properly" campaign on the 1st seriously.


If it is true it is certainly going to curtail that option because the waverers aren't going to take the chance of not using their car for fear of being made an example. I can only step back in admiration of the way RM are handling this. Today I got my Colleague Shares - you know the one - worth a pound or The Jam Tomorrow scheme - I'm holding out for the magic beans.

I may try for SVS again - who knows? - I might get lucky.

I very much doubt that has happened,although nothing suprises me.
At my place we have not used or cars for Months,no threats of sackings just docked pay at the mo.

But we obviously need proper conformation of this.

What`s the docked pay all about. You mean they can do you for not using your car? Is it in your contract and how does the insurance side of it work, you have to insure your car for business use? What if mail gets stolen?

I can't imagine how they could get away with sacking or docking pay..
Anyone want to explain how/why etc?

Just had a quick nosey around and read a news article, doesn't mention anything on sacking though.

We are under threat of sacking if we use our cars at all during work hours.Even going to first point of delivery is a big no-no.

let me put you in the picture: NO sackings at watford yet!! we have been doing the job properly for about 12 weeks now, for the last week or so anyone who has cut of has had a full days pay stopped. Even if you have done a full days work, the union were to take RM to high court today but RM have now said they will reinstate all members pay. last thursday 35 people all got letters telling them their pay was to be stopped perhaps this is were the confusion lies. They are desperate to break us at watford but we have stood firm. lets hope the rest of the country join in soon.

That is illegal for RM to dock worker's their pay when they have done a full day work and worked their actual hours leighton and crozier pair of lavvy heads :cfo :lfo

Don't forget to hammer them for stress that having your pay docked for actually doing your job properly has caused you....Typical Rm though..."of course we'll re-instate the lost pay with the threat of a high court action and a ton of negative publicity right before the strike, after all we can't have it emblazoned on the front pages whilst the Labour party conference is going on....What was that? the high court action isn't going ahead...well screw you then"

how could they take it to court? under what law etc?
