Callers Office Queues

Post by Mr Blonde »

Saturday is always a good day for searching for "royalmail" on twitter and seeing the photos people tweet of queues at their local callers office.

I pity them. And I pity those serving.

Our callers office was renovated last christmas to make more space for people to queue. The christmas before there was adverse press about people queueing outside c/w photos - now they are still in a long queue but they are away from prying journos for the most part. The downside was they took space from the staff part of the callers office and the locker

I pity the people who serve them when customers come down with their P739 cards(usually without looking at the back of them which states 24/48 hours before they can collect),when we can't find their items they go off on one...lol..personal abuse to staff members (who like me have not been trained for such things) is common...managers i deal with are usually always reluctant to face irate customers with the exception of a few...and so many of these P739 cards are filled out incorrectly...no dates,no description,(recorded, tacked, special),no surnames,no times, and some of the handwriting of posties and even spelling makes me wonder how they got a job in the first place at RM..only a day ago..a chap came down..gave me his card..which had no name on it,no date/time/no description to say whether it was a signed for item or not, all it had on was this...''COLLECT TOMORROW'' ...I mean you couldn't make it up could you...(i asked the chap when did he find the card to which he replied he had been on his hols so the card could have been there a while),what was he expecting,etc...and his surname...luckily i found it eventually(much to the relief of this chap and the massive que forming behind him as i was working on my own again)..i went straight to the postie who's round this chap lived on only to discover the regular guy was off on hols too..so the walk was covered on OT every day by different posties.. :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

How are people allowed to enter 24/48 hrs on the card?

At our place, the process is simple. P&L means that everyone returns to the office therefore so do returned items, the callers office shuts between 2pm and 4pm for everything to be processed in so I always put however many hours there are until 4pm when I can't deliver something.

Posties who pouch off(finish their deliveries/or just don't have the time).. are hardly going to walk back/catch a bus back to our office are they when some of them are up to 4 or 5 miles away with undelivered items ..so they go to the nearest post office in relation to their delivery with their P739 items and put either 24 to 48 hours on the back of the cards which theoretically should be enough time for all undelivered items to get back to their own(our) office(not always the case though)...

Our office works on a similar time scale to yours..does your place also offer full post office counter services such as sending mail/packets all over Europe/world as ours does/handles which amounts to hundreds as we are smack in the middle of town. ..which to be honest means we do a lot more than just hand items over to customers..we have been told by one manager that our particular ''callers' office is the third most profitable place in the country for RM and is a 'little gold mine'' as he put it!(Whatever that means)...
I used to believe working in a callers office was easy(as most posties also think),but its hard work as you never have a minute for yourself and what the fook are meal breaks?
We never have WTL sessions!
Often..when staff members go sick or are on hols in our callers office...it's usually me who gets asked to cover as the other two people who have been trained to work in there 'can't cope' ..lol...

Ours opens 6.30-8 then 8-5.30, shut at 3 on a sat.

Generally people always come in with a card thats says 13:00 or something and the time is 13:30 and it says leave 4 hours on it. That or they don't have a card but have a parcel to collect. And people who see me sitting in the locker but don't ring the bell so I ignore them until they do. Some even have the absolute cheek to shout oi or knock even though the sign is so so clear.

So you ignore them, when you can actually see them,

WHY.....WHY would you do that :mad :mad ? If you cannot do BASIC customer service :dcfo Put the shoe on the other foot. You are stood at the counter waiting to be served, you know the "Customer Service" operative has seen you stood there (You admitted you had seen them but ignore them) and yet they stay sat down ignoring you...... and you wonder why staff get "Oi" or the window gets knocked. :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh
