Re: 13th july
We've been told that the whole office is to come in................there is some serious anger in the office at the minute.
And yes, we work for RM and we do get the 12th and 13th off but that's because nobody can move here on the 12th and the 13th is just taken from our normal leave so it doesn't cost RM anything extra. Although we where told that it was because the union in England had complained.............which TBH I can actually believe these days.

Just because we all work for the same company does not mean we all get the same public holidays. http://www.royalmail.com/delivery/mail- ... #105100850" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Unfortunately for our NI colleagues it looks according to that link that the 13th July is a normal delivery/collection day.

I don't suppose the CWU will even put up a fight seeing as it's not affecting London

Re: 13th july
Well in London we fight things we dont agree with including taking strike action. Perhaps you should unite and do the same.
London have not got things based on where we are , the simple fact of the matter is that over the years we have fought indpendent of other parts of the union and Headquarters to achieve these things.
One thing i have learnt over the years , people can moan , people can be jealous or they can choose to organise and fight and thats what we in London have done over the years.
The union has always been a federal union , it was an amalgamation of unions in the first place including the London Letter Carriers and through the Branch set up it remains to be a federal union. Why does some people and reps let Royal Mail do what they want and then moan about it and criticse London for not letting Royal Mail get away with it.
But hey que all the abuse I will now get for simply stating the obvious. The union does not start and begin at CWU Headquarters it begins in each office and workplace. If you dont like what Royal Mail are doing dont accept it , organise and fight and make sure that your voice is heard.

Re: 13th july
Yes London have a strong base and use the national membership to push for their own ends. It's all too easy to say London this and London that but HQ is on your doorstep and very cosy too. You have a 95%+ full time workforce with a membership concomitant with that figure. I've told you before that you live in a union wonderland - try your same antics in an office with a 50/50 FT/PT split with 40% non union members and see how much attention is paid by RM. What surprises me is that you don't have a national London day holiday for the olympics and extra payment for it.dingo wrote:Well in London we fight things we dont agree with including taking strike action. Re: 13th july
Really, so it's right that the union just lets RM management do whatever they want? Without any fight from the union reps (who are all based in the MC and so won't be working the 13the anyway, just like management).dingo wrote:Well in London we fight things we dont agree with including taking strike action. DGP I was one of those who came over when you were out on strike and even was invited back for the celebration at the fish market later in the year so I know some of you are strong and fight.
There are plenty of other areas in the country who stand up for themselves , my complaint is that there are too many reps at all levels who don't want to get their hands dirty by meeting the members and addressing their issues. If you leave members isolated they will blame everyone when in reality all they need is help .
Dvbuk there may be offices with 50 / 50 ratio of full time to part time but in 2009 at the start of Royal Mail's delivery best praticse full time to part time in all area was : 108, 861 full timers and 35 313 part timers plus 1252 full time fixed term contracts and 2434 part time fixed term contracts.
The figures were mail centres and delivery offices combined.
Now each area was

Re: 13th july
You'll forgive me for mentioning dingo that the figures you quote aren't 75/25 but more 2/3rds to 1/3rd and I might add that we all took strike action in 2009 and since that date no full time position has been filled in our office. Our office stands at 60/40 at present with about 25% of staff not in the union nor remotely interested in joining, nor does it look like there is much of a campaign to recruit. At the time of the agreement some offices had a staffing level of 50/50 which hasn't been addressed. Many offices are running with part time staff on 25 hours, working many more on overtime instead of increasing the contracted hours, the union are well aware of this practice and are failing to monitor it, surely it is in the unions interest to get this rectified - not least of all it means increased revenue.dingo wrote:Dvbuk there may be offices with 50 / 50 ratio of full time to part time but in 2009 at the start of Royal Mail's delivery best praticse full time to part time in all area was : 108, 861 full timers and 35 313 part timers plus 1252 full time fixed term contracts and 2434 part time fixed term contracts.

Dvbuk as I said in the thread it includes mail centre part time staff which obviously brings the percentages down.

Re: 13th july
Since our revision 10 months ago, we are now 7 full timers less(either left or bought down) with not 1 person made up to full time. We now run on about 50/50 ft & pt. As you say the union are letting them away with it. No body has been made up for 6 years in our office.dvbuk55 wrote:You'll forgive me for mentioning dingo that the figures you quote aren't 75/25 but more 2/3rds to 1/3rd and I might add that we all took strike action in 2009 and since that date no full time position has been filled in our office.
