temporary worker,any chance of permanant

ive been a royal mail post person since october now and my contract got renewed 2 3 month contracts then ive just been given a 2 month contract. im realy desperate to get kept on i do all the over time i get offered i do anything im asked to do like start early stay late do other runs inc my own run. and i get given a 2 month contract.

is there ever any hope of getting a permanant contract and what can i do ti increase my chances

since i started no one has ever been let go but i need to buy a house and i need a bit more security . i onoly get the contract renewals a few days before my contract runs out and i get worried leading upto the renewal. please help thanks

same here working from 11-2010 and same renew every 3months.

i just got mine renewed and is for 2 months this time. its so hard as your always scared coming upto the renewal. my neighbour works in a different delivery office and has been there for 30 years and he said that they never sack anybody as long as you get your work done and dont cause any problems. ive seen plenty guys cuck it since i started as they cant hack it. but i love the job .

It depends on your office and the vacancies that are there, if there still has to be a revision then maybe not but I don't know so can't give you an answer.

does anybody know of people not getting there contract renewed who where decent at the job. anybody ive spoke to in my office and my neighbour have said no one ever gets sacked unless they are bad.

im doing a run and a half the moment cause we are short staffed and the new temps chucked it as it was to heavy

The only person I know that went from temp to permanent was the area managers wife.... she was temp a month then made permanent which pissed off many many people, particularly other temps who had been working for RM for alot longer!

So marrying an area manager may be the way to go if you want to go permanent!

royal mail will continue to give you a new contract every 2-3 months but expect nothing more..this is what they want! sorry if this seems harsh but that is the reality.

Why would you want to make a career out of this job?Morale is at a all time low.If i was younger and just started i would be looking for a way out.It was a good job 15 years ago.Everyone i know who has left has always bettered themselves.

We have staff in our office that have been in this position for nearly 4 years we are just waiting to hit the 4 years then at least they will get their part time hours on a permanent contract which is a start,you most likely will never get a contract for full time permanent & will be left in limbo for some time to come,make hay while the sun shines if i were you.

your rep should be trying to get al fixed term on to permenant contracts, speak to him

Good advice, especially now as there appears to be something coming out about this from RM and the CWU on a national basis.

I have been in the job for 1 year now, had 2 6 month contracts, now getting a third. Does anyone know what PMN and A/G stands for? Saw it on a sheet and wondered.

PMN stands for postman and A/G stands for associate grade which means part time

the legal side is that an employer can keep you waiting up to 4 years before the employer must give you a permanent contract.If u are made redundant by royal mail after 2 years then you are entitled to the same terms under mtsf.There is a clause in mtsf which states that the union should be trying to get a temporary or fixed term contact person made up after the 2 years has elapsed but this is not part of any legal requirement.It should be good practice by your local union rep
