Notes on peoples doors

In the last 6 months or so I have noticed a big increase in notes on peoples doors asking
1/ Postman please throw parcel over gate
2/Can you ring this mobile number and I will pick it up
3/Can you hide behind bin
I always tell them I am not like some of the Courior firms that deliver and that Royal Mail are not allowed to doorstep as it could be a sackable offence.
Should RM have something written on the 739's explaining this ??

I love ignoring them. Put parcel in box behind gate, do not knock working nights etc.

Anyone could've stuck a note on their door, and the one time you go along with it will be the time that turns out to be the case. Anything but writing a P739 is going to fly back in your face when it goes missing or gets damaged. Time was you'd do anything to avoid having to drag a packet back to the office or the local PO, but that's the beauty of P&L - the freedom to 739 everything. Even if the catflap is wider than the letterbox, your Lovefilm DVD is going back.

There was a note today on someones door to the postman. It said 'Special Delivery. Dear postman we feel we know you really well blah blah and we are out all day so please leave the special delivery in the box by the front door'. Turns out there wasn't a special delivery anyway.

I have a customer that has one of those Graze fruit & nut box things delivered every week but won't fit through the letter box, they have got two sitting so far in the callers office, I hope they have a decent eat by date on them.

i always dropped them over a blokes locked gate on my duty until one day his dog chewed it up!
he didn't report it and wasn't angry, but now i card him, and he gets something nearly everyday, or his mate is a posty and he sometimes takes them later

I know its slighty different but I rarely or never bring anything back to the office from my rural delivery. Specials, tracked, recorded all go through or in play houses, coal bunkers etc my customers would complain if I didn't leave the item !

and would you be in trouble for those complaints?
Or would you be in trouble if anitem was falsy reported as delivered by you and then went missing?

As for the parcels, it depends on the round - if I know the person its fine but I tend to stick with the rules. One of our chaps got in trouble for signing for something for someone he had dealt with previously and said it was ok to sign for stuff then with this particular item the woman complained it had gone missing!!!! In the rurals you can usually get rid of most stuff but am more wary on town rounds. New build estates are the worst where I deliver... no bugger is ever in!!!
