Off sick and confused!!!!!

Hi all - am new to this site and was looking for some advice. I'm currently off sick with a bulging disc (compressed nerve in my lower back) - have been signed off for 4 weeks and am in my 3rd week so far - ATOS have rung me and have said that i'm ok to get back to work on light duties - but am awaiting a decision from a spinal surgeon to see if i need a operation or not. Can ATOS make me go back even on light duties or would it be worth me going back to see my doctor to see what he says. Unsure what to do i'm quite a quiet person so if ATOS said jump i'll probably ask how high!!!!!

Yes - go and see your doctor and see if he thinks a return to work on light duties is advisable.
If he says no, then the answer is no - it doesn't matter what someone from ATOS said on the phone.
It would be wrong to return to work and aggravate the condition.
Only you know what you are capable of at the moment.

ATOS are blessed by the hand of God - it's amazing how they can heal just with a phone call - even Christ had to lay on hands - obviously it's the digital age Seriously though don't go back unless YOU feel able and if you do make, absolutely sure that the limitations YOU set are adhered to but in your case I wouldn't go back until the diagnosis is complete.

Hi I have a compressed bulging disk and when it was first diagnosed i was off for 10wks then a slow return to full duties was over a 6 week period though I personally thought that was to quick back to full deliveries,
3yrs down the road with still the same condition but have been through NHS and at the moment having to take tablets each night to help relax the muscles but I also have Chiropractor who I see now every three weeks and this has been since last september it was 3 times a week out of my own pocket

Only until an ATOS "Consultant" sees you face to face. Then the hand of God comes down with mighty big whack and your Doctor is no longer a consideration!

only if you let them i would always go with what my doctor or specialist said. as happened to me my manager said i should return to work i then had about another 3 weeks off( as my doctor recommended) after atos said i was fit for work as my doctor recommended

Hello me again - well have just been to see my dr and i told him that ATOS have said i can go back to work on light duties - he was not a happy bunny after much eye rolling and huffing and puffing he's told me that it's his decision and i must wait to see what the spinal surgeon has to say. So when my sick note runs out i've got to ring him up and get it extended - thanks everyone for your words of wisdom - I would of gone along with ATOSs decision and knacker me back good and proper (oh and its 3 discs that are protruding!!!) It gets better!!!!

Hello all......well it's been a while since my last post - nearly 8 months i've been off work now - i was put on a semi urgent list for surgery and have finally been given a date for my operation which will be the end of february... fingers crossed!!

It will probably be past the 9 month mark by the time i've had my surgery and recovered. Will i be put forward for IHR automatically or will my manager put me forward?? getting nervous now - not just for the operation but will i have a job to go back to.

And if i'm unable to go back to work and they do offer me IHR what will i get (i've been with RM since Oct 2008). Would like to stay if i could - but don't won't to be bullied out - i'm part time and last time i rang my manager i got told that i'd lost him his bonus with me being off sick for so long.......my bad!!

isn't that a shame the dom loses his bonus, Not oh how are you doing and if there anything I can do to help

can they not offer you indoor work for a while after the op ? to me there is always options and sometimes you have to iniate it because all your dom will say as in mine they just want you out as you will be an inconvenience to them

get Atos involved ring them yourselves I do pm if you want there no

I'm in a similar situaton. I'm off sick atm and hospital are deciding what course of action they're likely to take. Spoke with the hospital a few days ago and he's suggesting an op which will put me out for 3-4mths. As i've already triggered a stage warning already and got a sick line. if i go back under light duties whilst the hospital decide my fate which could be in a few weeks time, will i enter another stage warning if i need to go off for the op?
