Quick question - Do I have to train someone?

Have been told that I will be training someone on my delivery tomorrow.

Do I have to? Or can I say no?

It's a "reasonable request". I don't see how you could refuse unless there are issues concerning differing start and finish times.

do it, have an easy couple of days.

tuesday, do your walk and puppy walk the newbie
wednesday, get newbie to deliver the mail as you watch and advise
thursday, do half walk each
friday, do other half walk each
saturday, stay in bed and let the newbie do the walk ( ok this won't be allowed, but would be nice if it was )

you should have a workplace coach to do this if not you should get docket to train someone

I've always wondered about that, you probably don't but it's always something that should be done, and if you are supposed to get docket something they would keep quiet about.

If you go over then I guess you could claim docket. BUt there are 2 of you Even if he is a newbie

training on a new walk no such thing in my office manager your on this today, me i have not done it before , manager you will be alright sombody will spend thirty seconds with you to show you how to do it

Train him, and do it properly - why - because if you don't then its bound to come back and bite you in the ass later on. If they are your day off cover then its always better if you train them rather than leave them to it, its basic common sense and common decency.

I cannot understand why you should want to refuse. Is there more to this than you are letting on. E.g, you do not like or want to work with this individual? You think this person is taken the mick because a good note on how to do a walk will suffice?

Having said that, I could do most walks but there are about 3 in our office that is a proper full-time duty (walker does no IPS but preps only one extra walk) because it has loads and loads of firms and packets, sign for and things to give to driver and some to take to the office...

You are not being asked to train anyone.
After 26 weeks he should be fully trained.
All you are being asked to do is allow him to see how your duty works.
What makes you think you could refuse to do that?
