quick question about signed for items

Hi, I just finished my first week and will now be going out by myself so just wanted to try and clear something up.
How do you recognise items that have to be signed for but are not recorded signed for or special deliveries?
I am sure that there were a few where my trainer had to write in a tracking code manually because there wasn't the usual sticker.
I would ask my trainer but he does things so fast it's sometimes hard to follow and i think he may finish his sorting and leave before I even start on Monday.
Hopefully this makes sense, thanks for any help.

Thats the foreign ones I think you are describing, and it will have a stuck on it somewhere - the sticker can be blue.

The other ones are tracked and if you are using a PDA it will tell you when a signature is required. If you don't have a PDA you should not get any tracked.

Really? I never use a PDA on my round, I always get given a piece of paper that I either have to write the code on or peel and stick the sticker to. I do this for tracked, recorded and specials

Royal Mail training? Its not good enough on the delivery side... Not enough time is given to the trainers (another postie trying to get on with his job), often no workplace coach and the manager don't bother to oversee what is going on. Some are so rude and uncaring that they don't even bother talking to new starters for weeks on end... They still use the sink or swim method but then have to deal with high turnover and go out delivering letters themselves - counterproductive

The other thing is most new part-timers come in and says they have been told at induction; they simply need to come in and bag up -it should all be thrown out and specials and kill offs done...

We do P&L van share in our DO and both delivery officers have a PDA with them. They then scan their own deliveries, unless it's oversize then the Driver does them.

We are a smallish office and its scanned by our Dom. We are given items that he thinks will go through a letter box without the need for a signature.
The problem arises if they don't fit and no one is at home. We then have to inform the locker on our return so they are not scanned again as undelivered

Yes it is quite a statement but knowing the packet guy in my office who moans when he has to do anything that disturbs his coffee and smoke breaks it is entirely reasonable and yes, the managers do allow it to happen but I would have thought by now my opinion on them is well known
