failure of PDA
Hi I am trying to find out where I stand on a PDA issue, just over a week ago I had to deliver a Olympic tracked item, I went to the address and I believed I scanned the item, the customer was not in and i left a p739and returned the item later as a form left, later in the week I was told I hadn't scanned the item, I had previously been having PDA issues and I have video's the PDA behaving incorrectly, I had reported this and was told by a line manager this happens and had to accept the glitches, now however I am facing a conduct code issue of misconduct, I have had a fact finding interview and now a formal interview where i brought in the area rep, we explained I have 4 pieces of video evidence collated over the last couple of months and text messages to a line manager regarding faulty PDA on collection to which the evidence was ignored on the formal notes I received today ! If anyone can advise me of my best course of action as I refused to sign the formal notes. Many thanks Paul

Interesting one,and one I think will come up more and more
The PDAs are a poor piece of hardware and even worse software.
Do you work from a van,or on foot?

If you scanned the item did you go throught the procedure of " Not delivered " then reason " No answer " If you did there should be no problem ?

Re: failure of PDA
This is what I believed I had done, as waiting for customer to either answer or not answer you scan item and either form left or deliver item. In this case p739, either way tracking number would be on PDA,somerset wrote:paul1971 wrote:Hi I am trying to find out where I stand on a PDA issue, just over a week ago I had to deliver a Olympic tracked item, I went to the address and I believed I scanned the item.If you scanned the item did you go throught the procedure of " Not delivered " then reason " No answer " If you did there should be no problem ?

Re: failure of PDA
No 24 years service, I know you select not delivered then reason for that, no answer, it still doesn't enlighten me on whether a PDA which has been disconnecting itself, freezing for up to 5 hours would of not passed on the info ? I have actually video, ed these issues and was it was basically ignored ! Hence myself trying to establish best course of actionsomerset wrote:Paul1971 ? As you have only just joined this site. Can i assume you are a new starter in RM? And have you been properly trained how to use a PDA ? There is more to just scanning the item . You have to key in reasons why not delivered .

well my 1st question to the managers would be are the PDAs designed for use on foot duties.
Given I sat in on meetings right at the start of PDA introduction.
The PDAs were set out from day 1 to be used with vans
So what has changed to make them suitable for non van use(I have raised this many times in the DO,as the highest rate of failure is on duties with little or no van use)

Seems to me and anyone else you have done everything correct . Seems to me you have a dopey line manager ? You have not lost the tickets they are in the office . I cannot quite see what all the fuss is about? But a warning to anyone else . There is a pattern in our office where they are trying to get rid of all the senior posties with any little excuse. So they can replace them with part timers !

Perfectly correct Custard . In our office the only people using PDA our the drivers . Not one walker has ever taken a PDA out .custard wrote:paul1971 wrote:Hi custard, I am on a singleton duty, was on foot delivery at the time.custard wrote:Interesting one,and one I think will come up more and more

Re: failure of PDA
A singleton van will deliver their mail in loops on foot and then packets from the van so, it's reasonable that he has a PDA, as for the failure........I don't know, I've never had one, I make sure the PDA clears everytime I use it (even to the point of a reboot) so that if there is a problem then it's at their side and not mine.

Postal Digital Assistant (PDA), Handheld Intermec (CN3) Scanner, Mobile Phone and Satellite Navigation System - Safe System Of Work (SSOW):
http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... DA#p214329" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Trials of the equipment found that the PDA was too bulky for Delivery Staff other than Drivers to carry round and therefore the PDAs will not be given to those who deliver by foot, cycle or high capacity trolleys. When smaller models are available Royal Mail will reassess the kit and decide if PDAs are appropriate for those forms of delivery at a future date.
