NAME AND SHAME

I work in the barnsley office, (north east) and we have had a work time learning session as we have this office has the highest number of customer complaints. Customer complaints have increased since the revision.The first group to attend were the duty holders for the duties which had received the highest number of complaints. To my disgust I discovered my name was at the top of the list even though the complaints were nothing to do with me, the rota guy and my work buddy were the culprits. One of the complaints happened whilst I was on holiday, but it appears to be my fault!!!!!. To add insult to injury a name and shame list was displayed naming the postie and the number of complaints against them. (as the duty holder I have to take the rap). I spoke to my union rep, he went up like a sky rocket, then he spoke to the DOM who said they could put up a name and shame list. This escalated higher and the manager had to take down the list. It turns out the list has to show the duty number not the duty holder. When I went to load my van a coward shouted "you are not fit to be a f******ing postie, can't do the job". The sarcastic comments continue in the office. I am already under dda for depression, caused by bullying!!!!!!!!!!!
My questions are can royal mail put up a name and shame list? Can they put all the complaints against the duty holder, even when innocent? Has any one else had the same

The question isn't whether they can put up a list but whether it would be considered to be bullying and/or harassment.

Bullying is intimidation on a regular and persistent basis or as a one-off which serves to undermine the competence, effectiveness, confidence and integrity of the person on the receiving end. A bully misuses his or her power, position or knowledge to criticise, humiliate and destroy subordinate, colleague or their manager.

Harassment is any inappropriate and unwanted behaviour that could reasonably be perceived by the recipient or any other person, to be affecting their dignity.

It certainly ticks both boxes in my opinion...and by the way those are Royal Mail's own definitions.

I fail to see how name and shaming you is gonna improve or resolve the problems bought on by another ill implemented revision. I think this definitely comes under bullying and harassment. like you said your already stressed and this situation will only be exacerbating your condition. Maybe a trip to your Doctor and a few months off work due to work related stress will help you feel better, it certainly worked with my colleagues

If it's a shiny, sparkling, all singing all dancing 'World Class Mail' initiative and there are bonuses to be had then the answer is most likely yes . A 'great place to work' eh Mr. Leighton....

We did have a duty list with the number of complaints against that duty but not naming any individual, that was a few years ago and it has since died the death because it had no effect whatsoever. There are now a variety of lists showing what position each office has achieved but as there is a huge difference between volumes of mail, terrain, revision or not it's just an exercise in statistics not a process for improvement - but I don't think they've spotted that yet At the end of the day you don't need some office bound pillock telling you whether you have done a good job or not

I used to get complaints about doorstepping and letters posted to wrong houses and after being blamed initially by management I knew it was't me and found out it was the docket king doing my cut off.
After telling the DOM it wasn't me it was the Docket King, guess what......nothing happened

absolutely disgraceful, its bullying and harrassement, we should let not one manager get away with this, tell your union rep to push this all the way to the top, we have to put an end to this right now!!!!

No, they cannot do this! Throw in a written grievance straight off, and ask for an apology.How low can this company stoop?

Management by putting up this list are encouraging others to bully and harass you also.

As usual in these circumstances keep a diary of events and insults put your way as a result of this list IE name shouting across the yard.

Management could even be guilty of encouraging group harassment.

Read the bullying and harassment procedure and also Royal mails conduct code a few times until you are familiar with it, the fact that the complaints weren't even against you adds weight to your argument.

You do not haveto put up with this in the work place but you have to go about it the right way and understanding the bullying and harassment procedure and the conduct code is most important.

Take your time, collect your evidence and don't let it get to you, these people are just ignorant cowards, once bullying and harassment is mentioned they will shite a brick.

Agree with the above your manager has caused this to happen, get your rep on the case asap

We had a list with duty numbers displayed and i was 2nd from the top with 2 complaints. Turned out it was my support driver doorstepping parcels.

Waste of time.

hi mollynomates, i'm also in Barnsley office and i can honestly say untill today 30/06, i had not heard of any of this nor of any name n shame list, i'm absolutely disgusted that staff at our office can do this ( hopefully a minority ) but more with management for creating the problem in the first place, you don't have to feel alone in this, i for one will help and make sure that it doesn't get swept under the carpet, we'll make sure this goes as high or as far as you want it to, i can assure you i don't back down till things are sorted, if you think i can help you or you'd like to discuss it then just let yourself known to me, i believe you know who i am. I wonder if you're able to view this list or request a copy cos i'd love to see where i am, and the ones that think they're so superior
