weight of packets

Dont want to start yet another drivers v posties thread as it seems to be coming up alot but what is the official weight (if there is one) when a packet/bundle of mail is deemed too heavy for a bike delivery therefore it goes with a driver? Or maybe its just that the postie has to make up another bag to accommodate the heavy item. Is it written into any agreement anywhere?

Don't forget that besides the weight limit of 1.25Kg, there are also packet dimension limits (one is 40x40x10cm, another I don't recall is more cube-like), the template for which is often non-existant.

I had a parcel turn up in its own york, yes it was that big, I then took it out in the van no one there, so 739 it, next day had to redeliver it the MAN refused to remove it from the van, cos it was sooooo big, I had to arrange another person to help me with it, why is the post office letting these through

Today we had to deliver littlewoods catalogues, I weighed one and it was 2.4kg. I asked my manager what constitutes an oversized packet weight wise and was told 3kg! so is it 1.25kg or 3kg?

Is this still valid as it does not mention weight limits for steep hills and stairs for the 5kg maximum weight. The Union should be right on this issue, happening right across UK, what are we paying our subs for.

If these are RM Heavyweight items (they have BB on them) then they go by van if over 1kg

Totally agree with you and I do, but what I find there are many documents going about, I have shown the DOM the http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... hp?id=3710" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; others are having the same battle in their delivery offices. Why can the union not just make a statement. I may be missing something or I do not understand the procedure. If you dont ask you can not learn, thats why I am asking.

Bob will only copy/paste if he gets a lot of complaints.
Even then they are very choosy over there,the amount of times i contacted them about the management lies about the old d2d system and the abuse by managers making our guys do it in their own time,there was even a big thread on it on their Facebook page ffs.

Get your branch/area rep on the case if it's widespread.
