The one's I worked for on delivery, definitely. The office one's
not. I don't work for Rm now but I can honestly say
you're treated like s**t as a postie, they give you nothing, no
help whatsoever. To all Royal Mail managers out there :dcfo

I still remain angry about my manager getting rid of
me for my first mistake in seven years of working
in the delivery office. I know damn well that his
favourites would've remained, if they'd done the same
thing that I did. I've worked at other places where I've
got on well with the management, had a laugh and a
joke, but not with this lot, where it's a definite case
of them and us. Getting a bastard days leave was an
impossibility in itself, even if you gave a couple of month's
notice. Toss pots the lot of em.

RM must be one of the last 's**t rolling down a hill' big companies. Some twat at HQ come up with an impractical idea. Everyone scrambles to implement it, resulting in otherwise decent people acting like c**ts.

We got two good managers but they are old skool fellas that have been there donkeys years and started out as postmen back in 1970 something, they treat you fair. The rest of the managers are either acting ones or f***ers that have been hounded out of another office and been dumped on us, basically scumbags and w*****s.

Acting managers are lazy and probably bad posties. This must be he only job were failed posties are promoted to management. This is why this company is failing. Another problem who wants friends to become posties? No many now.

I recently had a change in Lino. I have gone from a lino that pleased himself what he did and didnt do to someone that at least does his best to help and keep us informed with goings on.

Not all RM Managers are W%$£%£& but compared to other industries I would say that there is a higher than average %.

One of the main problems is that some Senior Managers who are basically glorified playground bullies rarely face any form of disciplinary action for their behaviours and in fact are viewed as role models. This filters down from Director level all the way down to acting MLs and is so much a part of the fabric of operational management that it would need a complete 'drains ups' re-structure from a Chief Exec with the will to rectify matters to put things right.

Away from operations there are support managers (for some reason only known to RM anyone from an accountant to a salesman is still classed as a manager) who by and large are the same as you would find anywhere else, normal people doing normal jobs.

One of the main problems is fear ... manager to manager bullying is probably as prevalent as any other form but it is undertaken in a subtle manner that is difficult to prove and even with proof the CMA are about as useful as a chocolate fire guard. I totally agree with your analysis Budfrog especially the part i have quoted.
I have to say though it seems to be prevalent right through the business,not just in management because i have seen exactly the same outcome with members found guilty of B&H,it seems that for as long as i can remember rather than wash it's dirty underwear in public Royal Mail would rather just turn them inside out and carry on wearing them.

As an acting DOM I'd like to say everyones treated fairly but when you have people dropping off sick every other day it's hard not to hold grudges, especially when these cases aren't genuine (facebook reveals all)

I like to think that the section I work in now has more of a 'lets do what we can' attitude towards the lino as he does seem to at least show a bit of interest in us.
