how the besuma do you use a lieu day?

asked a manager today if i could use up my lieu day next week for a day i have some domestic circumstances that would prevent me being able to work on that day (i'll need to look after our toddler). i offered to take the lieu day off (although i also said i was happy to swop day off or similar), but apparently that's "not how it works", and i'll have to sign some form or other

so that begs the question, how does one use a lieu day?

I think they are just used like ordinary holidays, you should be able to get some form of special leave dependant on why you need the day off, I had to take one of my kids to hospital for example and was given the day off to do so. Someone else more clued up will be able to explain it better.

In our office you hand a scrap of paper to the DOM requesting a particular day off (well in advance). Unsurprisingly it's impossible to book a Saturday off.

They're normal days off. If you have 22.5days leave for the year but gain a lieu day, the spreadsheet will now say you have 23.5days leave remaining.

He wouldn't let you book it off because either a)it's too soon and all leave available for the day is already booked, or b) he couldn't be arsed with the hasstle.

Do managers work on a Saturday? thought they came in drank tea till we go out then buggered off home

Edited just told manager and he reckoned that was bullsh*t..... its coffee not tea

Haven't had any 'odd days' leave in AGES. But if I did I'd go through all my long weekends and tack it onto the preceding Friday to make it an even longer weekend

The DOM has 1 in 1 Saturdays off while we're still on 1 in 6 post-revision

after all of that, when i broached the subject again earlier this week, he's given me the day off and taken the lieu day
